    NYPD investigative review

    What's up everyone.
I am a Police Officer candidate for the New York City Police Department.

I have been put under investigative review for the following reasons:

    - 7 seat belt summons.
    - 1 speeding.
    - Changed lane without signal.
    - Inside park after closing hour.
    - Having open alcohol bottle inside vehicle.

It's been about 1 year and 3 months and I still have not heard from the department.

Does anyone know how long I have to wait?

Also, does anyone know how long is the psychological written and psychology oral interview good for (expiration)?

    Thank you =)

You were most likely DQ'D because of repeat offenses which show disrepect for the law. It is on the NYPD websites list for possible DQ's. Call up candidate relations and find out whats going on.
    Got my call!

Alcohol in a vehicle is not good. Do you currently wear a seatbelt when operating a vehicle in NY?

Yes, I have been wearing my seat belt ever since I was told by my investigator that my driving record might effect my chance of getting into the police department. My driving record has been clean for the past 1 year and 6 months.

Yeah, the seven seatbelt tickets alone must not have been a good enough hint.

This appears to meet the disqualification criteria based on a displayed pattern of disregard for traffic laws.

sounds like you are all jammed up. Call your investigator and find out the story. Psyche review is supposed to be from 6 months to a year after they put you on, I would definitely call your investigator. Good luck!

    I see your point.
    However, I see it differently.
I got 7 seat belt summons within 7 years of driving period.

Before you even say it, I'll beat you to it and say, "What's up, ROS?"

Now with that out of the way, keep in mind that Vengence is a LEO with NYPD, and you are applying to a LE agency. It matters not how you, the applicant, see the situation. If the department sees 7 tickets for the same offense as unreasonable - whether they were received over a 1 year period or a 10 year period - you're not going to win. Best to call and gain whatever info you can and apply again, or apply elsewhere.

To answer one of your original questions you would have to retake the Psych after one year. You claimed you were on Investigative Review though, so they would not schedule you for another psych until you pass the Background.

    Do you practice verbal judo?

When you add in the other tickets you received, that adds up to a police contact every 8 months.

The BI will have an issue when you chronically violate the law. If you don't respect the law yourself how can you enforce it? If you're getting this many traffic tickets in your personal vehicle, how does the BI think you would operate a dept vehicle if hired? As Ros stated, it doesn't matter how you see things, it matters how the dept will see it.

So the only reason you obey the law is because your BI told you to? Many candidates have had clean records their entire driving career. Were some of those tickets reductions or were they all actual seatbelt tickets?

    What's up Vengeance.

    Three things..

    1. To be honest, when I was younger, I was careless in many ways, and also did not see laws regarding traffic violations as a big deal.
However, as I got older, especially after my investigator told me that my driving record is a problem, I began to see law in a different perspective. I realize that in order to maintain order in society, one must obey and respect every aspect of the law, regardless if it is major or minor.

    2. I am very serious about making it into the NYPD. In your perspective, looking into my situation, what do you recommend me to do? Continue to wait or is there other alternatives to get info or to resolve this conflict?

    3. I don't know if I recieved ticket reduction or seatbelt ticket. Every time I receieved one, I just paid off the amount the city requested.

    Thanks.
