Does anyone know how its determinted who gets selected to attend the academy when all testing is complete? I have recently passed all testing phases at a large city PD. MY BI said that everything was fine and the next step would be her calling to let me know when the academy starts. She said she was just waiting for HR to say who gets to go next on the list. Since I was not called and there is a class starting Monday, I assume I will be in the next class?

Generally a list is compiled. The finalists are ranked in order of their desireablility (the best is #1.) As spots become available names are pulled off the list in order. The list will be good for a certain amount of time before it's discarded and the process starts over. If you are #15 and there are only 14 positions filled before the list dies, you won't get hired and you'll have to go through the process again.

This is why we tell people that just because you don't get disqualified doesn't mean that you will be competitive enough to get hired.

Ask your BI where you are on the list, and ask how long the list is good for, and how many positions they anticipate filling.
