Question on background

Im 41yrs old and testing for my local P.D. Passed the written & physical agility. I go for the oral Feb.22.Heres my questions. The dept. im testing for has 16 full time,3 part time officers,fairly small dept.Can anyone give me any advice on how to handle the interview,do they do the background beforehand,how far back does the background go.I got a dui in 1994,was arrested for petty theft in 1988.Any info will be greatly appreciated,thank you all & be safe.

Yes i have changed.Im raising a family in the community im applying to,been here 12yrs.Ive never wanted anything as bad as i want this.Ive worked construction{union cement mason}for the past 17yrs,Ive always thought about law enforcement figure at 41 i better do it now.I just hope they will see that im sincere and have changed and WILL be an asset to them.

Admit to your past , show how you have changed and become a better person, show what kind of life you have been leading, show that you are mentally and physically capable of doing the job and show us that you WANT the job.
