    LAPD Polygraph

Has anyone here gone the through the LAPD polygraph? I'm trying to get an idea of what kinds of questions to expect. I was completely forthcoming with all of my information during the background interview, but worry a little bit after hearing so many horror stories of people telling the truth and still failing. Any insights would be helpful.

    Thanks!

    Dont worry.
    Pretty standard. No head-games.
Just relax and answer the questions.
Thats all I can tell you at this time.

Relax, understand the questions, and go for it. If you think you got an unfair poly, appeal it. I did and got a second. Be honest about things... you might think this one little thing is going to ruin you, and you don't mention it. But guess what, they wouldn't have given it a second thought, but since you failed to disclose it, you're DQ'd.

The questions will be discussed with you before the poly so you can rationalize your answers. For example, when I took mine, one of the questions was "Have you ever stolen anything". Well.... I stole plastic rubber Barbie shoes from Two Guys Department store when I was 3. I told him about that, so he was able to change the question to "Other than what you have told me, have you ever stolen anything?" That way I could answer NO without fear of it showing me lying.
Also, some of them will never say "You passed". They will say something to always leave the door open for them to change their mind like "I see no indication at this time that we can see that is obvious" or some crap like that. Don't let the pressure catch up to you. You are going to be honest, don't let anything worry you. I didn't think about my first test at all, and wasn't worried. The other one I had taken was the one I had thought about, and I found that I was more nervous, and showing more of a reaction to that one.

Tell them everything you can think of no matter how small. You will be fine.
And your whiney *** crybaby excuse would be....

Thanks for the info. I'm not worried about disclosure...just curious what to expect.

How many questions do they typically ask during the actual exam? I know the pre-interview is probably fairly extensive, but how long is the actual test?

12 questions total... first 6 are given in random order 3 times... then second set of 6 given in random order 3 times.

Good Job! What questions did they ask?

Don't know if I passed or not yet, but I was extremely comfortable with the whole process. They more or less asked all of the questions I expected them to with a few exceptions...have you ever lied to anyone? have you lied about your drug use, etc...
