    Anyone familiar with MA?

    Hello,

One of the agencies I am considering applying to is Boston PD (or perhaps one of the suburbs). I am curious if anyone can explain to me how MA establishes residency for their civil service exam. I called up human resources, and I spoke to a very young sounding girl that did not sound too reassuring when giving me information.

My situation is as follows. I am currently a full-time college student at UCONN living on campus when school is in session. My parents are divorced with my mother living in CT and my father living in Brookline, MA. I have my own bedroom in both homes, but spend the majority of my time when school is not in session in the CT home of my mother. It is probably also important to note that I receive in-state tuition at UCONN (CT), and I hold a CT driver's license.

As those that are familiar with the MA hiring process know, the civil service exam is only offered every two years and you must have one year of residency in MA to take the exam.

Would it be possible for me to claim residency through my father to take the exam that they are offering this year? Are they very strict with this, or are they somewhat flexible?

    Thanks

With civil service in Jersey, residency is very strict. There is no bending the rules. You must have residency by the date of the deadline, and if you move after, you are SOL. I would assume that this is the same for MA.
