Didn't want to ask, but am in a spot...

I was, as some of you know, turned down by a number of departments due to my driving record. I've had 1 ticket since 2003, but in my past I had 4 accidents before 2003, and thus, I was turned down. I have done my best to keep my record clean, but in the past 2 months, I've been involved in 2 not at fault accidents, the latest being this morning, where I had to go to the ER due to whiplash and being light-headed. The 4 previous accidents were 2 at fault, 2 not at fault. So I now have 6 accidents, 4 not at fault, on my driving record. Am I doomed? Thanks all!

If you're getting hit by other people who are being listed on the report as at fault I don't think it will hurt you.

What I would do is buy a monster truck, so you are 20 feet higher than anything on the road. Thus when you hit someone, or someone hits you. All you would have to do is accelerate and drive over them. Eliminating the chance of whiplash or personal injury to yourself. :p

Just kidding around, good luck with that

I was rear-ended twice in a short period and a pysch dr. grilled me senseless about it as if somehow I caused them or was somehow at fault for drivers that didn't brake in time. I do think that she held it against me.

Btw, both drivers were in Boston on vacation from warmer climates and hadn't driven in Boston's foot-deep snow before.

Some agencies only request that you list at-fault accidents in your background packet. Explain yourself and let the chips fall where they may.

I think I'm gonna buy myself a bumper car...I'm 2 months into a fight with Erie insurance to get the first accident taken care of, because they claim that even though their guy was responsible for the accident.

**He was driving a tow truck, I was parked at a parking meter, putting packages in my car. He didn't want to wait for a car making a left turn into a parking lot, so he went around him to the right, leaving the lane of traffic, going through a bicycle lane, and hitting my rear door. He argued I opened the door as he drove by - my argument was that if I'd done so, I wouldn't have a functioning hand anymore, based on where he hit the car. Furthermore, they argued that I opened my door into a lane of traffic, and thus, they don't have to pay. I argued that their guy left the lane of traffic into a parking lane, and struck my vehicle. The first insurance claim investigator from Erie didn't even contact me for 3 weeks - my insurance agent had called her twice and left messages, and I'd called 3 times before I went above her and spoke to her supervisor, who assured me that Erie turnaround time was 24-48 hours, and got her to call me 4 days later. She was very unapologetic, and closed the case despite photos I had at the scene, which showed where my car was parked, the 2 1/2 foot bike lane, and the lane of traffic. Her excuse - it's an awfully small bike lane. The case was re-opened by her supervisor, and then closed. Now it's been opened a third time after I hounded the office of the president and threatened to go to the BBB and take their insured to small court. Moreover, their insured lied to my insurance company about what happened, when he filed a claim against me!! They denied him, of course, for leaving the legal lane of motor vehicle traffic. This is still pending...**

Geico, on the other hand (the insurer of the latest accident) immediately admitted fault on their insured's half, scheduled a day for me to drop my car off at one of their repair centers, and got back to me very promptly. When I asked for a rental they accomodated, and scheduled the rental to be at the repair center when I drop my car off. They also offered me compensatory damages due to myself and my passenger having to go to the ER - I'm ok, just a mild cervical strain, my passenger's in worse shape, but nothing serious. I figured I'd wait to see how I was before I went forward with that, having never been offered damages before. I'm not gonna call some ambulance chaser either...I have no respect for those guys.

    My poor, poor Camry...

Tough break man,s orry to hear. I agree with everyone else, when you apply for police departments be up front and honest with them. Let them know the circumstances and who was found at fault according to the officer writing the report, not what the insurance companies said and the pieces will fall where they may. Good Luck!

Oh, believe me, I'm very upfront about everything when I apply and fill out my background packets. I'm just more frustrated that I've tried to keep my current driving record squeaky clean and the rest of the driving world sees a bullseye on my car...
