My names Jeremiah and I have been a member for about a month or so and I wanted to express my gratitude for the great, knowledgeable, and honest members on here. I appreciate it.
I will try to make this short...hence the word "try"...I have to get into a bit of detail of my life to get to my point (if that makes any sense ):
About 4 years ago I decided that I wanted to get into law enforcement. At the time though I was a freelance research diver doing what I always wanted to do since elementary school and a career I jump started right before my high school graduation.
For a duration of about 5 years I was living in Hawai'i working for a professor when the project I was helping with was cut by the University. I moved back to San Diego about a year ago and bought a brand new vehicle.
I had the vehicle for a duration of two weeks when I noticed several serious problems with the car. These problems were addressed to the dealership numerous times.
Two days after notifying them about the problem I was involved in an accident that left my car totaled and a broken collar. Thank God that I was the only injury on the scene. I ended up doing a 360 across two lanes and hitting a van head-on. I'm so glad there were not any children in that van it could have been so much worse.
Anyways to make my long story longer I am currently in the process of receiving a settlement from this whole ordeal but was told last Friday that I will have to have a plate put in my shoulder due to the fact my collar bone has not be healing properly.
I had just recently passed my written exam for the Sheriff's and went to the 1st orientation. On the advice of my doctor and lawyer they suggested that because of the injury, which will take a few years to get any kind of proper evaluation on how it is doing, that I should consider on not pursing a career in law enforcement.
I had to make the tough decision and told my background investigator that at this moment in my life I can not continue in the process. He understood and said that if anytime in the future I can apply again.
Not all is bad news, I figure due to my prior drug usage in high school (over 7 years ago) and the fact that I just received a promotion today as Security Site Supervisor that it would be in my best interest to put some more time and gain more experience to help further my chances next time.
I apologize for this long rant and didn't want to impose on a "sob story" here. I just hope that I could still remain an active member on this great site and perhaps my experience with all this would give some kind of helpful advice on any new prospects that come here.
Oh by the way...I'm not wearing a hat, but since I'm not a verified I guess I can get away with it :p (for now)
Thanks and be safe :D
