    Border patrol Poly

I was looking over the Border patrol fact sheet on their website: http://www.cbp.gov/linkhandler/cgov/...s_bpa_fact.doc

and noticed that under #3 of the hiring process it states that there is a polygraph examination. I don't really have a question about the polygraph, I am just more curious as to when the BP adopted the use of the polygraph for their hiring process? I always thought they were one of the federal agencies that didn't administer the poly.

    Anyone know?

70 views and no one knows or did everyone already know that they had adopted the polygraph?

Does any body know when they started using the poly? I know they didn't at one point. I searched and found a thread on it from about two years ago that indicated they didnt use it at that time.

None of us are involved in the hiring process, so we may not have the information you are looking for.

    From the CBP FAQ sheet:
Pre-employment Requirements consist of a thorough background investigation, medical examination, fitness test, and drug test. If your background includes past or present arrests, convictions, dismissals from previous jobs, debts and financial issues, excessive use of alcohol, use of illegal drugs, and/or the sale and distribution of illegal drugs, you most probably will be rated unsuitable for this position. You may also be subject to a polygraph examination.

Law enforcement positions have been able to use poly as part of the hiring process for years. Not all agencies require it unless there is a specific reason, such as part of an investigation. My take on this is that you might have to take a poly, not that you will. The CBP is simply being proactive and ensuring you are aware of the possibility.

The above is 100% correct. Several federal LE agencies have this policy. If you are honest about describing your background, no worries. If not, be prepared for them to probe further, including hooking you up to the box.

Oh alright I didn't know the BP always had the option to use it or not. I thought they just flat out didn't use it. It makes sense that if something is off with someone's background to hook them up to the poly. I just didn't know they had always done this. I thought maybe it was a recent change in their hiring practice.

Thanks for your responses by the way.
