Hi everyone. I have a question. I applied for a civilian position with a local law enforcement agency. Part of the process was a polygraph. I was so nervous. It was the day after my background interview. I totally over analyzed every question, and I am a worry wart. But here is the question. The polygraph examiner asked me if I had had anything that I thought of that I need to disclose that I did not tell the BI. I did. I had not honestly thought of them until after I had left. One was something that was as recent as November of last year.. But I am wondering, I told him all this prior to the actual polygraph, and he went ahead with it, but he told me that he does not make the hiring decisions. He did not tell me in the end if I passed, he said he was not allowed, but he was very professional and nice. But would I even been allowed to continue with the polygraph if I had told him something before hand that would have disqualified me?

1) Check your spelling, get better at it now and you'll save yourself a ton of heartache in the academy.

2) Many (as far as I know) agencies recognize that you might remember something else prior to the poly that you didn't remember on your background packet. As long as it's not a huge item, and they don't think you were trying to conceal it, you're probably ok.

Look, don't stress over the poly, you took it, told the truth, end of story. All you can do now is hope for the best, relax. Good luck.

The polygraph is a great tool. However it is also total crap. It is NOT admissible to court regardless of municipal, state, or federal in the USA. Local Govt's hold there own on what's allowed per local/state code on the results. If you feel you were wronged see the local legislate. That's it. No worries. If you told the truth you're good. If not, well that's your problem. Were you going for a dispatcher job or what?

I went in while feeling nervousness. I was calm during the test. It's total junk and they trying to see if you would fess up any more than what you told in background. As long as you fess up to B.I. then you are all good.
