I would think its a city job since DCAS administers the test. If it were state the NYS civil service would be the ones giving the test. Check out this page

horrible job stay away. Had one friend who was on DEP police and left for NYPD so that should tell you how bad it really is. If you really need info on the job PM me and i will put you in touch with him

Just my opinion ..... but I've met several of the DEP senior staff and they struck me as good folks. The Chief came up through the ranks and knows the job. They cover from Schoharie County south into the city and are a mandated two man patrol. That was the Chief's doing. His goal was officer safety first. A rookie I broke in "way back when" is now their Lieutenant in charge of the SRT group and the academys. The pay scale is better than comparable to most.
