This post will be short, cause I have to go study. 3 days in the academy down, 129 to go. We've lost 6 people so far; You need to really want it to succeed. That said, this is the coolest job. Good luck to everyone in the process,

We lost 3 the first day, shortly after getting smoked PAST the point of exhaustion. I wonder why they quit?! After nearly barfing up a lung, laying on the floor destroyed, the most rememberable feedback we got from the academy Master Sergeant was, "That was just a 30 second fight you just went through."
Tell yourself everyday that you are going to make it through the academy, and keep a good sense of humor with you. It's worth the wait. ;)
Wow! 6 people in 3 days.
Good luck to you bay and congrats on getting this far.![]()

It's not unusual.
Most people quit within the first week or so it seems. I think most of them just wuss out when all the yelling and screaming is in their face, and not just an abstract concept. They can't handle it. Some people quit after seeing graphic real videos of officers getting injured and/or killed on the job. Others decide they can't handle the PT and discipline expected.
Whatever their reasons, good riddance. I don't want a quitter or a wuss as a partner anyway.
I used to care. Now I take a pill for that.
Thats crazy losing that many people.... Good luck and hang in there.
Congrats on making it into the academy!![]()
My class started with 30. 17 graduated. The academy is rough, no doubt. What old timers told my class when we first started was to see "the job" in two parts.
Part 1: The academy.
Part 2: Being a police officer.
Once the horridness of Part 1 is over the real fun begins. If you stick it out you'll realize that this is the best job in the world. I've remained friends with a couple of guys that dropped out of my class and they all wish they would've stuck it out. Now they're back to their old jobs, disliking them and wishing(sometimes dreaming) of being the police.
Hang in there even when it's tough! Good luck!:D
I am in day 2 of our academy which really isnt tough as long as you follow directions. The hardest part is getting up at 5 am and getting home around 6- 6:30. We only have 18 guys but we are a pretty squared away bunch. We only have 17 weeks of class then 4 weeks of FTO before graduation. Good luck to everyone still trying to land a job!

Must be nice getting to go home in the evenings. I went to 2 seperate state academies and was only permitted to leave Friday and return Sunday.
Well today was my 3rd day in the LAPD academy. It was our first day of physical training and we did the PFQ(personal fitness qualifications). Good news is I did better than I thought on the first fours test on the PFQ. Bad news, before they last test on the PFQ which was the mile and a half run, I started to feel light headed. Then I came so light headed to the point to where I couldnt stand up, or even sit down. I then passed out. They called over the paramedics. I went to the hospital, they did a whole bunch of test on me. It turned out that I had no problems. The doc said due to me cutting my calorie intake by half and then pushing my body to the limit threw my body in shock. I came into the lapd academy very unprepared physically. I am very out of shape running wise. Push ups, sit ups I am ok at. So they were yelling and screaming at me all day. But the doc said they get one person per month that passes out. I am pretty pissed off, I made a bad impression today and I stuck out. I think basically almost every drill instructor knowns me by name now and that is not a good thing on the third day. I hope I didnt screw myself over for the enitre academy, but i think i did :-(
I dont think you did screw yourself over, just continue to give 110% and work your *** off and you'll be fine. As far as my academy I wish it was residential, I waste so much time driving tht its stupid to even come home at night I dont have time to see family or anything just maybe 10 min on the comp to check RP :p I'd rather just stay there but no accomodations. Anyway almost one week down 20 to go
