    Failed Oral psych for NYPD

I just found out today that I've failed my Psych Oral exam, I was very disappointed / surprised. My investigator couldn't tell me the reason because she said is a totally different dept. Can anyone give me some advice on what I should or can do at this point, and also does this mean that i have no chance of ever getting into NYPD? Thank you!

apply to another department, just cause you failed something for one department doesnt mean that your hopless now, there are plenty of New York and NJ Police departments you can apply to. Relax if this is what you really want to do you'll get there eventually it just takes time.

    Good Luck

Is all right that u failed oral interview. All you got to do is take a new exam that is coming up and start everything all over. Simple as that man. Good luck.

well i was been told that if you do reapply... your old record will still be with you and they will review why you fail because in the psych part they ask you have you ever taken the civil sevice exam and they will know that if u did or did not... that what i been told.

one question... if u been DQ for the first time during the psych, wont they just dismiss you and just not hear your case...because they already dq u the first time???

No. It depends on what you were disqualified for. A guy I know was dq because they felt he was not emotionally stable enough for the job right after his father had died. He re-applied two years later, passed, and is now three years from retirement.

You put you were afraid of the dark and expected to be hired as an NYPD recruti who will be responsible for answering calls from a footpost late at night? You do the math. If you have a question on a part of the process you could always ask someone to clarify what they mean. It helps avoid situations like this

Hey man....I wish you the best of luck in the future but come on......you need to know your tenses and exercise a little "common sense". The question "ARE you afraid of the dark?" (currently as an adult NO) is a lot different than the question "HAVE you ever been afraid of the dark?" (childhood possibly).

When i took the written oral for BSO i scored low on the MMPI which is what you just took. If you are not 100% honest with yourself then you will never pass the exam PERIOD! I spoke with the Dr. who administered the exam after BSO declined my employment for the current class. He basicly told me that although i passed the exam, he could tell that i had not matured enough to successfully score higher than the competition. Meaning, i went about answering the questions wrong.
The Dr. told me that i was not honest enough with myself, questions like "are you afraid of the dark" should be "No". But you should be more honest when you get questions such as "Do you get angry?" You answer should be "sometimes or Yes" because you ARE A HUMAN! You should have emotions and fears and they can tell if you are trying to make yourself look good. Dont do what i did, don't answer with extreme answers such as "Never i never get angry" Because you will be lying to yourself.
I personally will pass my next exam because i won't make the same stupid mistakes i made last time. Good luck to you, i am sure you will do fine next time.

First of all,not being able to make the distinction between being scared once when you were a kid and the question as it pertains to the here and now with regards to a recruit and eventual police officer is glaring. If you wanted to be honest, you needed to get more specificity if you thought it included your entire lifetime. So number 2 thats a lack of judgement on your part and police officers are supposed to be able to have the ability to judge to some degree more than what you have displayed. Also you need to get your grammar together, because the style and way you wrote the post was really messy and sloppy and difficult to decipher, which doesnt help matters either. I think you can re apply but you have to start the entire process all over again including taking the test and getting all the paperwork together, etc...Do you really want to do that?:D

You could always appeal and have higher up to evaulate your situation. If they say, "okay," then you pass.

If i were you, take the new exam and start everything all over. If you appeal, is gonna as long as starting the new process, perhaps even longer. Appealing might cost a couple of bucks because you will need a lawyer.
