drug posession and sale charge

I know that most of you will instantly think bad of me and thats ok. I was a bad seed for awhile. I have a first time offender misdomeanor and a drug posession and sale charge on my record. The drug charge is a felony but it was dropped and never convicted but it shows up as an arrest and it would be very hard for me to pass a polygraph. Ive applied to 2 departments to no avail. I understand that theres a possibility of NEVER becoming a cop in my lifetime, but i am a good person. Does anyone know of ANYWAY around this mishap. I dont even know if i can get it expunged because according to georgia law, there are "guidelines" that my situation must fall in before getting accepted. Being a cop is all i ever wanted to do but i made mistakes. Ive taken drugs as a teenager, wrote bad checks, been arrested etc. I have an average credit score (bringing it up now). I have pondered wether or not to keep applying and hopefully catch a break or put myself through the academy and take the chance of wasting the 3-4k spent. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Is that your way of saying, "I know I'd never be able to lie my way through a polygraph and not tell them about it?" Sure sounds like it.

Regardless of whether it's expunged, stays on your record, or Jesus Christ Himself comes down from the heavens and grants you a full pardon, it's still something you DID - part of your past history of activity that is part of what makes up your character.

Riddle me this, Batman: When you disclose all this, your biggest problem isn't some minimum hiring guideline or requirement: it's your competition. If there are 100 people who apply for the same 5 positions, and 95 of them do NOT have this kind of background, what do YOU think YOUR chances of getting hired are?

While YOU may think that you are a "good person", even good people who have never committed a crime and have always behaved with integrity are not all qualified or suited to be a police officer.

Simply wanting to be a cop is not enough. Your candor about accepting your fate is commendable, but at the same time you attempt to minimize your past by using terms like "mishap" and "mistake"

You didn't make a mistake unless you meant to sell vacuum cleaners but the box had drugs in it when you sold it.

RO56 had good advice also, I'll just say that LE is just not a career choice for you.

Stay straight, get an education, and try to help your fellow man. Life is as rewarding as you make it. ;)

I would not lie through it, your assumption is noted. I meant pass as in i would tell the truth but i wont have an passing result. as far as your riddle is concerned, i agree the competition is a problem but as much as going through the entire process then finally getting to the end and them telling me im disqualified for what i have done. They could have told me that before i waste everyones time. That has happened in the past week.

You know, i come here and ask an honest question and get smarta** comments. All i ask is that you shoot me straight without all the comments. Regardless of what you might think, this is important to me.

I have made "mistakes" as in i fu**ed up and will never do it again. people can change and do change regardless of the thought process of police, government officials and stuck up parasites that believe "once a criminal, always a criminal" It dosent work like that but thanks for your input.

My attitude? Because i dont like being stereotyped and judged by people who dont even know me? People like you. I have a college degree and currently have a job making 50k per year starting. I am married with 2 kids and my wife is going to school to be a registered nurse. I can guarantee i will be more successful than you will ever hope to be. You should think before you open your mouth, your arrogance is shining bright for the world to see. In fact, its cops like you that give law enforcement a bad image. Ill smile quietly when i see you on trial for the next rodney king-like incident or the next police brutality complaint. Plant evidence lately?

Yet here you go bashing people who gave you an honest answer. Twinged with sarcasm or not....it's the truth. You PROBABLY will never have a future in LE. A mistake was swiping MD 20/20 once or twice so you and your buds could get drunk at 16. A habit is a string of perpetual offenses to support said drinking habit. That is where you now find yourself.

Maybe your parents knew something when they told you every decision has it's consequences. You are now facing the consequences for idiotic youthful decisions. It may not be right in your eyes, but it IS the truth, something that we in LE not only pride ourselves in, but maintain a level of integrity that most people cannot.

All i asked for was honesty, not judgemental sarcastic remarks. I apologize if i was forward but most of the cops that work around here are smarta** punks that let their very LIMITED authority go to their head and think they can treat people anyway they want. You seemed to fit that description. Maybe i am wrong. If you are truly trying to offer good advice then i appreciate it but please do it in a not so sarcastic and discouraging manner. Thinking bad of me is one thing, bashing me and automatically talking to me like im some scumbag that you deal with everyday is something else. Talk to me like im a person with feelings instead of a crack fiend with no life. I dont have a holier than thou attitude. I simply want the respect that i tried to give all of you in my first post. I dont want to be a LEO for fame or to make a name for myself, i want to do it so i can give back to the community and try to help people that are the way i used to be. I cant put it more honestly and sincere than that. I would actually prefer to work with juveniles, with proper instruction and good communication, those teens can be taught to go in the right direction before they end up in prison. I believe the world can be a better place with good cops, i would make a great cop regardless of my past and i know that. All i need is a chance. So i apologize to you also for anything i have said that may be offensive. I just want people to see me for me and not what i have done in the past.

You are assuming again. You have no idea wether or not i would make it. Stop assuming and judging me. Jesus Christ, all about the assumptions. Just answer the question of wether or not i have a shot. I dont need a psychic evaluation. Thanks
