Broome County NY Departments

Did anyone else take the Broome County Police Officer exam on Dec 2, 2006? How many people do you think were at the test site? I got a letter for the PAT this month, and was wondering how many others took the exam.

That is my home town! Born and rasied there for 22 years before flying the coop! PLus I vist often to see the family. My father is with them as well as two cousins. Vacanices are far and few....like 5. They also have a HUGE number of people claiming Veterans preference. They also tend to prefer locals over people from outside t he area. I don't mean to be rude, but place very little hope in getting hired with them. The Sheriff gets to hand-pick up their, and trust me, the "goold old boy" network is in full effect.

Furthermore, there are two towns within Broome County (Endicott and Johnson City) that have their own small police departments. Due to budgeting, these town are considering closing the departments and letting the BCSD cover them for law enforcement. As a result, the Sheriff stated he woudl take all of those employees onto the payroll. If that happens, he will not be hiring off the test. Those towns will only require an extra 3 cras whihc they already will have the staff and equipment.

Sorry to hijack but I go up there a few times a years right off Rt.17 . East Boskett Road. Nice place and a decent size State Land. I get to relax and get my brain working again. Good Deer Hunting too. I have never really seen any Broome County cops. Just Troopers and a ton of DEC cops
