    Accelerated hiring for pilots?

I currently work as a full time flight instructor teaching people to fly. It was mentioned in a previous post that sometimes pilots can get fast tracked on the hiring process. Is this true? Does anybody have any additional information on this? I was never in the military if that affects anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    -C

I haven't heard anything about this, but I have a question...

Why would they fast track pilots?

    .
You took your family and joined in the urban sprawl... can't see the stars as well but you're near the mall.

Maybe if a PD is in NEED of a pilot (not simply officers), and a certain pilot fits the credentials well.

    Ah okay, that makes sense.

I can see them being fast tracked for a PILOT JOB with the department, but not the job of a regular officer. Being a pilot would certainly help you out though, I'm sure.

that is what I was wondering. I am not entirely sure of why either. It would make my life easier if it were true...

I have not heard of fast tracking pilots. When I applied to the Cincinnati Police Department shortly after getting furloughed from Delta Airlines, I went through the same 18 month process that all the other applicants went through.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you, pal. The biggest problem I'm having is explaining why I want out of flight instructing (or aviation in general).

I've applied to only one agency that uses sworn officers as pilots, but even there, they didn't seem to care much about my aviation background. And I even interviewed for one university PD where they told me to my face that I should be looking for LE aviation jobs instead of officer jobs. (!)

    Anyway, good luck.

I don't have a lot of interest in flying for a department. I bet you understand what i mean when I say that one of the things i am looking for is... are you ready for this... STABILITY! I do think that maybe we as pilots would have a bit easier time with the book work considering we do spend plenty of time with government regs etc... Cops do make good pilots, i would like to think it will also transfer the other way.

    best of luck to you!

Yes again...compared to the FARs, criminal and civil law portions of the academy should seem like a piece of cake. FWIW, I've had a few cops as students who did pretty well, and more than a few co-workers who were moonlighting cops, so there seems to be a connection.

    best of luck to you!
    Thanks, same to you.

Now that you mention it, I remember a pilot getting fast tracked (sort of) to a department...Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (Cincinnati) where he currently flies helicopters. I actually spoke with him on the phone for about an hour asking him many questions. I was attending the Cincinnati Police Academy at the time. He left the United States Marine Corps where he flew helicopters and basically went directly to the cockpit before he was even law enforcement certified. He attended the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Academy during his free time to get law enforcement certified while flying for them. I am not sure if his actual application process to get on with HCSO was abbreviated but he did go straight to the cockpit once hired.
