Wish me luck! I'm gonna need it.

I just sent in my application for Deputy Sheriff for Santa Cruz County SO! If anyone knows about this agency, shoot me a PM. I've read everything I can find on the site, but it's always nice to get an unfiltered opinion. So far, I'm pretty psyched. I've always loved the area, and I've had nothing but great encounters with deputies out there. So wish me luck!!

And by luck I mean green. Just playing! Just playing! But a good word would be greatly appreciated. =D

    **UPDATE**

Took my written test for Santa Cruz County SO today. Feel pretty good about it. Now I get to wait some more for my scores. Yay!

    Another update.

Got my letter in the mail today. I take the PAT test this coming saturday.

220 yd run in one minute, 165 lbd dummy 60 ft in one minute, and a 6 ft wall climb in one minute.

I can do the run and the wall, but I have no idea about the dummy drag. Any tips on how to practice for that? Other than dragging my best friend around my house?

Definitely don't worry about practicing with your best friend because even though the weight is comparable, it's different. The dummy will be 165 pounds of pure dead weight. The test is not difficult if you are in shape, but be sure to use the strength of your legs to initially pull it up off the ground. From that point, just quick and focused steps with your arms tight under the armpits of the dummy. Like I said, not difficult, but definitely not as easy as I had expected. Good luck to you

I think that the best method for the dummy drag is to bend at the knees at the head of the dummy, push it upright into a sitting position, get your arms under it's arms, and grab your own wrists or hands. Stand (use your legs so you don't tweak your back), and drag with little, rapid steps.

The most awkward/hard part is keeping your grip on the dummy as you quickly shuffle backwards without tripping. Don't try to sprint with it, or you'll trip. Use your legs to do most of the work, and don't let go!

You can practice with a friend so you can get an idea of what it's like, but as lawinterest said, it is different when it comes to dragging the dummy because it's pure dead weight.

    Good luck.
I used to care. Now I take a pill for that.
