Well... The time has come... I will be starting tomorrow and I have never heard of such a thing as a "red card". I honestly don't know what type of training to expect but I know I will be ready for it and I know it wont be easy.

To everybody good luck and you probably will not see me around here for a while. Wish me luck and see you soon!

THERE IS NO RED CARD!!!!!!!! I am currently in the academy and I have never even heard of it. The New Pilot Program is supposed to start with the 2-07 class, however the 1-07 will be exposed to some parts of it. As for more disciplined I am not sure if thats the case. They told us the academy is going to be lower stress in the coming years and move from classroom to scenario based training. They are no longer requiring shaved heads, and supposedly there is going to be less yelling....if thats possible...I don't know ho much of that is true and how much is locker room BS but thats what I know about the subjects. As for the time of day, most people roll in at about 0500, unless you are preparing for the self defense test in which the PT/SD departments hold study halls that start at 0500 so you get there around 0445. As for push ups and all that you will have your first PFQ the first week, 95% of your class will "Fail" but thats expected so don't sweat it. Just remeber Integrity and to answer up and you will have no problems. Good Luck, Have Fun, and remember everyday there is one day closer to graduation.

I think the elective courses you speak of are already offered at the divisional level as in service training.

In my short time out on the street I've had quite a few T/O's that have showed me how to type the RTO to request a T-unit for T/C's. My first foot pursuit involved a juv, a recovered gun, and a use of force when the little gangmember turned to fight at the end of the pursuit. I was already on OT, and earned 8-1/2 extra hours that night ;). Also, "Out to Station" is so old school, they use "F/U with reports" now...

yeah I was being a smart *** about the department going to a "college" type of learning and being able to choose your classes. The bottom line is the training isn't what it used to be. There are too many recruits complaining..and some even suing. There are some OT capers you cannot avoid. With the new 1-07 class, if you graduate then pass probation you will get a $5,000 bonus. Knowing the department you'll get that bonus minus taxes in about 6 years. Kind of like our uniform check which now gets taxed.

Today was a great day, how much more motivation can we get? I will post some links to videos later today when I come back home.

    Ok, enough with the jokes.

If the LAPD is so worried about the quality of the candidates and the recruits then why would they make the academy easier? The LASD made the academy more difficult because the Sheriff wanted to sort out the people who slipped through the cracks. There is more yelling, more PT, more stress...I feel this is the way we create disciplined recruits that will respect their fellows officers and pay attention to their surroundings. I have friends in the LAPD and they seem to think the LASD has the right idea and the LAPD is drifting into dangerous territory with the academy regiment. I would like to hear from former Deputies that left the LASD and went through the LAPD academy to compare the differences. I was told that nobody can lateral into the LAPD...that you MUST attend the LAPD academy...is this true?

    Okay,

I am NOT an LAPD officer but I am pretty sure this must be a rumor. While I was the Marine Corps there were a bunch of rumors about giving recruits "stress cards" in boot camp, and that's all they ever were, RUMORS. I am quite sure this is an offshoot of the same rumor. I had several friends that were D.I.'s during the time this rumor was going around and they said it was complete and utter BS. I am pretty sure it's the same way at the LAPD academy.

If you lateral into LAPD you do go through a shortened academy and with other laterals. You might be in with other recruits but it's for the classes that LAPD only offers. My friend went through it last year. It's about 8 weeks long. Yes you do go on probation after.

Thats the problem with LAPD! The kindler gentler LAPD is not like it used to be nor like the LASD. I have a friend 5 weeks in right now at LASD and there is a big difference.

By not being high stress and not pushing recruits you get some recruits that you have no idea will happen when it hits the fan. I've seen this first hand on calls.

But then again it's all about numbers at LAPD..

I have heard that the city is paying $5,000 bonuses to recruits who successfully complete and $10,000 bonuses to lateral transfers, through June 07. Does anyone know if this is true??

    Signing Bonus

The signing bonus will need to be approved by the city council, and, judging by many of their reported comments, will be approved shortly. Here is a link to the story as well as comments about the swearing in of "MAGDLINA"
