Got a question regarding Background interview/polygraph LAPD

All my life I NEVER lied at all till this christmas party to my mom. I had a background interview 2 weeks before christmas and i put down NEVER LIED because it was true. I lied to my mom just recently that I was going to the market but I went to my friend's house first and stayed there and forgot about going to market. Before I go to my poly, should I report this to my background..or should I just tell them that at poly?

You've never lied in your life? Not even to avoid hurting someones feelings etc... until just now?

In my opinion, you're blowing this way out of context. Everyone lies, what matters is what you lie about. If you tell a polygraph examiner you've never lied in your entire life up until just now, he's going to have a field day with you.

I agree with dan. Even little kids lie to their parents.

When people tell me that they've never lied in their entire life, it causes me to raise an eyebrow in skepticism. I'm more likely to think that they are a big fat liar than someone who admits that they do fib here and there.

When you get to the poly just admit that yes, you've lied to your parents since when you filled out your app. No biggie.

Also, if you've ever called in sick to work when you weren't, or told a friend she didn't look fat in a dress when she did (to spare her feelings), or anything along those lines, then you have lied and should fess up to the examinor.

No one will ever believe you when you state you've only lied on one occasion in your life. That is simply unreasonable and too unlikely for one to live a life and never lie (unless you're were also born of a virgin birth and come to save mankind). It may be that you generally live a honest life and don't recall lying to anyone in recent memory, but its not possible for you to have only lied one single time in your life.

I know people who are blatantly honest and even avoid telling "little white lies", but everyone has lied numerous times in their life, particularly when you're younger and learning right and wrong.

Don't turn a no-big-deal situation (like admitting to the fact that you've told a lie in the past) into a HUGE situation by trying to play off that you've only lied once in your entire life. Just be honest about it.

it's funny because I really didn't lie except this once..i came from strict background..so whatever.. anyway. Even if I did..it must of been long time that I lied and didn't realise it..just like sociapath people.

eitherway..the point is should I call LAPD background interview people(when I went through that phase) that i lied to my "loved ones" before i take poly?

ps...now i see why honest people lose out big time.

Just be honest. But the best thing to say is that you don't remember lying to anyone except for that time with your mom. But to say you have never lied is kind of hard to believe... Oh by the way, if you want to become a cop, you will have to lie, especially if you go into plainclothes.

here's what i'm tryna get at:

I went to background interview and they gave me paper with bunch of questions. One of them was have i lied or lied to loved ones. I know for sure they will look at this very carefully. I put them down as "no." At that time I couldn't think of where I lied. Just recently I "realized" that I might did..or maybe unintenionally mislead others.

QUestion: I know I will be real, but should I go back and call the background department that I wanna change my answer before I go to that day and do poly?

Nobody is avoiding the question, but I don't think you need to call and change the answer. Just explain to the polygrapher what occurred. Nonetheless, he will be skeptical when you claim to have never previously lied before.

Understand the answers to your post, that officers are trained to be skeptical because they are always lied to, and so it is quite difficult to accept at face value someone who claims to have never lied in his (or her) life.

How do you "unintentionally" mislead someone? I think by the very definition of misleading someone, it is intentional.
