Just got "the call" this morning. I started the process off an exam back in 2002 and am now extremely proud to say I'll be entering the New York/New Jersey Port Authority Police Department Academy on January 8th.
Christmas has come early! Happy Holidays to all.

Just out of curiosity, why did it take 5 years? I know some guys now who have been in the same process for the RCMP now for 3 or 4 years, but that's due to the current problem with 'cherry-picking' candidates and the problem with 'white males'.

Got the call yesterday.........Hired Amtrak Police !!!!!! Christmas has come early for me also!!!!! Long wait, but well worth it!!!! Good luck to all and Happy Holidays

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why it took until May of 2005 to begin processing me. They hadn't put through too many classes off the 2002 list except for a couple classes that were comprised of current LEO's from other departments and given an 8 week abridged academy. Those classes were special cases and they're now back to the full 5 month academy whether you have LE experience or not. Congrats Officerelw174.

How long did it take for Amtrak to contact you after you submitted everything? I filled out an application and resume online a few weeks ago online, and nothing yet. Thier website says the position is still open though.

Not too long. I believe it was a few weeks I received a letter for orientation. Then was scheduled for the written test. After that was the oral, then psych. written(2 sections). Then was scheduled for the one on one psychological. After that, it all fell into place. Although it took some time, it was worth the wait. Originally Posted by jzee109
