    Question After Oral Board Question???

    Just curious to know....

I just passed my Oral Board with Hayward police Dept. in the top half. Does this mean i have a better chance at getting hired? Plus they are having me come in to fill out some waivers and background info, and do a writing sample. The question i have is if the writing sample will be graded towards hire or if its just to see were i am with report writing. Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Nick

Where I am in the process they rank each candidate after the oral boards and they process you according to that so when there are few positions the top 2 or 3 start first. The writing sample is probably more tosee if you can write coherently and properly. They dont care if you can write a report they will teach you that in the academy. Good luck

No, it doesn't mean you have better chance of getting hired. You could have scored #1 on the oral board but if something pops up on your background, you fail the poly or psych or your medical shows that you break out into hives and convulse whenever someone gives you a dirty look then it doesn't really matter where you placed on the oral.

Plus, a lot of agencies adhere to the "Rule of Three" which means that even after you jump through all the hoops, pass everything, the chief of whatever department you're applying for has the option of choosing one of the top three candidates for the open position. Which means that, even if you scored #1 in everything, the chief can still pick the #3 guy if he wants to.

However, scoring in the top half does mean you'll be considered for further testing before the folks in the bottom half.

    Good luck to ya!!
