Applying to depts in other states

Hey. I was looking at NYPD and they say that you need a NY drivers license and to live in NYC or a surrounding county in New York.

Is that the qualification before you even get hired? or can you get hired, then move to New York and get the drivers license? Because I am from New Jersey and only live 30 minutes away. I could move, thats not an issue, just I wouldnt want to do so without a job in place.

I think if you read all of the requirements on the NYPD recruitment page you will find your answer, or you could use option 2: Call the recruiter and ask him/her.

You must meet NYPD's residency requirements and obtain a NYS driver's license before they will hire you. So you have to get all that done, and they may or may not hire you, it's a gamble you'll have to take if you want NYPD. There are other departments throughout the country that will give you a hire date a month or so before, so you'll know you have the job before you have to move.
