I hear alot about the auxiliary officers getting looked down on my the sworn officers and that they dont respect them im not looking to step on any toes or stick my nose in things, i also would like to know what they go through in their training thanks
OK first off you must realize that you will have no police authority whatsoever. NONE only in an extreme situation like a Huricane Katrina will you be issued temporary Peace officer status. Thats it.
Training is a 40 hour class for about a week or two and if you want a firearm you must take another 20 hour class after six months. You write no tickets pull nobody over no arresting anyone nothing. You may do ride alongs with sworn police officers or might be asked to direct traffic at events. It is a good thing to get a feel for police work and looks nice on your resume. Oh, and you are not looked down by other offficers at all. Thats if you dont try to act like a police officer.
There recruiting office is in the basment of the Suffolk County Probation office in Yaphank. I used to work in Suffolk Probation so I talked to alot of the guys all the time. Problem with recruitment was 99% of the time some guys were just looking for the fast way to any kind of badge and thought it was a back door into full time Police with suffolk. Prefrence points I think was the most common term I heard. Well its not true at all.
Heres a link to more info.
