    This is the JST course.

What's is the Job Standard Test?

The Job Standard Test (JST) is a criterion-valid physical job task assessment that tests for an individual’s ability to perform both typical and atypical physical tasks which can be expected to be required of a Police Officer’s response to either a routine radio run or critical incident. The Job Standard Test (pictured in schematic below) is a continuous timed event comprised of six stations that must be completed in four minutes twenty eight seconds (4:28) without stopping. The six stations of the Job Standard Test are as follows:

    • Barrier Surmount: From a kneeling, weapon-ready position the candidate sprints fifty feet to surmount a six foot barrier.
    • Stair Climb: The candidate proceeds from the Barrier Surmount to a 6-stair climb system and completes three over-and-back traverses.
    • Physical Restraint Simulation: The candidate proceeds from the Stair Climb to a controlled-force tactics and training device which measures the ability to resist or control force in a physical restraint situation.
    • Pursuit Run: The candidate proceeds from the Physical Restraint Simulation to a run/jog around a pattern of cones for approximately six hundred feet.
    • Victim Rescue: The candidate proceeds from the Pursuit Run to a simulated victim rescue involving a thirty-five foot drag of a one hundred seventy-six pound mannequin.
    • Trigger Pull: The candidate proceeds from the Victim Rescue to a trigger pull station, picks up an inoperative firearm, holds the firearm within a nine inch diameter metal ring and pulls the trigger sixteen times with the dominant hand and fifteen times with the non-dominant hand. Once inserted, the firearm must remain within the metal ring for the completion of the trigger pull cycles.
    • Timing is stopped upon completion of the final trigger pull. This continuous event series must be completed within four minutes twenty eight seconds (4:28).

You need 60 college credits. If you do not have 60 credits you will be put on hold until you get 60 credits.

As of right now, I'd be glad if I can get hired by the NYPD, becoming a Sgt is at the bottom of the list right now. Beside, one can only learn to crawl before walking. I got the first letter of acceptance for the exam, it state that I claim both Veteran and Disable Veteran points, and I was like when have I done that? During the test, some guy asked if he can retract from using his veteran's point and use it for the Sgt's exam if he passes the entry exam, and they said no, so I guess I'm S.O.L.
The NYPD needs people really bad. The 5 veteran points you got wouldn't have made a difference for the NYPD entry test.

It's a long process. Good luck to you guys.

    KiDWoNDeRZzZ, Sir,

Thanks for the heads up. Out of everything, the thing I'm affaird that will get me DQ is the medical part of it. Being the fact that I have a disability percentage, I wonder if NYPD will hold that against me. I guess I will have to find out the hard way.

I also do not have all of my credits. I called and put my application on educational hold. I will have them all by June so hopefully I can get into the July class if they have one. Should I activate my application after the January class starts so they can start processing it or should I wait till June? Thanks.

Being the fact that you know so much about the NYPD and it's processing. Do you think that I made a mistake by selecting to use my veteran and injured veteran points this early? I applied online, and I saw the boxes and said "veteran" and "Disabled Veteran", and I clicked it. Does this mean I used it already?

I'm still active duty till the 30th of this Month, how would they go about processing my paper work if I'm still active duty?
I only know what I know because I already been through the process and I'm in the academy now. Like Kid said, it doesnt really matter because the Department needs bodies. Good luck to you all. It's a long process but you will be rushed through it. Wait until you guys do the countdown for "The Call" and trust me you will do it because if you hit the search button you will see that we did just like the class before us. Ahh can't wait till its over. 4 more weeks!!!

As long as you have the credits before the date of hire you will be good to go. The downside will be that if you are not finished until late June then you will need to wait to get your transcripts and you paperwork will not be sent up to the higher ups to get approved until those transcripts are in your file.

No buddy my math is correct. G&S day is technically our graduation day as recruits but we dont get sworn in until the 26th which is more of a day for our family. A certain Sgt. up in 523 told me that. You wanna go up there and challenge it? LOL Good luck with that one. So its not the 19th anymore? The earlier the better

In the packet they gave us after the test they say that you can start the backround investigation with 45 credits. I will have them by January. Do you know if that's true? And if so should I activate my application after the January class starts?

The NYPD has ways where you can get up to about 30 credits really easy and fast. So maybe that is why it says that. It would be wise to activate it and get everything else out of the way so that when you get done with school, the only thing missing from your file will be the credits.

when will you be done with the 60 credits. 60 credits at or around the start of the academy = prob. no january class for you. It will take some time to get your transcripts out. But you do have the backfill, it all depends though when you get those credits done!

I will not have the 60 until June. I am hoping to get in the July class. I was just asking if I should activate my app after the January class starts or until it gets closer to June?

Thanks NYPD706 for the response. It says that you need to bring your transcript with the 60 credits on your firdt day. If I don't have them until June will they still proceed with the bi investigation and get everything out of the way? This way all they need is the credits and I am done.

honestly man, my advice is this. Dont feel so rushed with this process. Its going to create more work for you. Here, lets say you finish the process in december, but you obv. cant get in bc you dont have enough credits. You will have to do the mini medical all over again and meet with you invest. and update your file. You might as well just wait and make sure this is the job you want. Take EVERY test available to you. The job will still be there for july 07.
