One more department info wanted (Alexandria VA)

Thanks all for your help thus far, I am turning my background packet in next week to Alexandria PD. I hope all goes well, I was just wondering if there were any members from here, that know a little about the department as far as hiring and such, and know the process they go through. Thanks in advance all, am enjoying the site!!

I am hoping they process quickly, they are my #1 choice so far, but was given a conditional offer with Fairfax CO PD just a couple of days ago.

Having worked for Fairfax they are my favorite of your two choices there. There is more diversity in terms of assignment locations and available job assignments. You can spend a year at GW University to become a paramedic on the helicopter, go into full time or part time tactical team... the list goes on. I think the only thing they didn't have when I was there was a mounted patrol on horses. They have mad money and fantastic equipment as well as top notch training facilities.

The downside is the cost of living but you'll have that problem in Alexandria too...

I just heard that Fairfax's employment process (poly) and such is such a bear to go through, that the conditional offer basically means nothing.

The conditional only means they are going to continue testing you. It took me about 6 months to get through all the steps. My background took about another 6 months but that's on the high side. They tested out of towners all at once over a single, three day span when I went through.
