Los Angeles County Sheriff Dept. - Academy Hopefuls

I'm in week 5 of the Academy, it's tough, but I am truly enjoying the experience....class 335 should be starting up w/in a couple of weeks (rumor anyway)...if anyone here is post'n while hoping for the Los Angeles County Sheriff Dept, drop me a line and I'd be more than happy to describe the experience thus far...

A very important heads up - save your money, cause you'll be buying all sorts of gear, books, etc the first few weeks....best wishes...:D

Also, thanks again to all you guys that walked me through the process...you guys truely are wonderful!!!!

Now I'm confused. Are you and Iwannabeacop2 the same person? Or are you guys two different people who happen to be in the same class?

How's that Class Sergeant position treating y'all? lol

Samuel - Iwannabeacop and Iwannabeacop2 -both are me...how this happened I don't have the slightest idea....

When the DI's or Staff Instructors march in and fire the current class sgt and start eyeballing the rest of us for his/her replacement, the recruit pucker factor increases ten fold!!! I haven't been selected for this, but it's coming I can feel it...

"Class upon my command we will fallout of our assigned classroom and onto the Ginder, south of the solid grey line in platoon formation, facing north!!!" Nothing but DI smiles and kudos of course...

Andy, email me any time you wish...it sometimes takes me a couple of days to respond, but I'll look out for messages from you...:D

LOL It sucks when they ask, "Ok, now who wants to be Class Sergeant?". You can't win...

    Oh man the memories... LMAO!

    Keep it up!

I never heard about this, but as far as I know, Class 334 (- a whole whooping 6 wks old), won't be facing lay-off...the budget still stinks, but just not as bad...I may be wrong on this, hopeful some of the old hats will respond....anyway my fingers will continue to be crossed, only now on the seam of my pants, at the position of attention.....

    Mike,

How did you and your class like Redman scenario training today? I think I saw you (only one of you in class with your last name, right?) but didn't get a chance to talk to you (I was one of the 5150/417 suspects in the back corner - not the bald guy, the other one - the "nicer" one lol).

I'm sorry I wasn't able to make things more "interesting" for you guys; I've had a cold for about a week (since Patrol School DT training) and it's been kicking my butt. :(

One of your classmates said that most of you are going up north? Do you know where you're headed? Not sure if I'll see you guys during jail ops; they haven't asked me to help lecture in a long time.

If you have any questions/comments/concerns, fire away!

BTW, not trying to jinx you, congrats!

Well, I guess that depends on where you live and how far you want to drive. Friday & Saturday nights (PM or Overlap Shifts) are probably the best times to ride. If you go to a station like Century, Lennox, or East LA, it really doesn't matter too much WHEN you ride...

Call the watch sergeant at the station (let me know if you need the phone #) you want to visit and ask him what you need to do to schedule a ride along. Request that you be assigned with someone who doesn't mind having observers with them (rare, but they are out there). Riding with a good LEO is the single most important ingredient to having a good experience.

Let me know when you get closer to riding and we can discuss how to make the most of your ride.

I'm in Orange County... so driving wouldn't be a problem for me. Do they ride 2 man cars at night or singles? I hate ride alongs where I'm in the back the whole time. Can you send me the numbers to a few stations, I'll call them tomorrow and try to set something up.

    Thanks for the info.
