    LASD Academy Site?

Iwannabeacop, where did your academy training take place? 18 weeks of training, not bad. I applied with the City of Monterey Park and they send their recruits to the OCSD training site. Training there is for 6 months, which is kinda scarey! :(

I trained at the STAR Center in Whittier...wow, OCSD stand-by to stand-by...I heard they can be rather brutal in those parts....

Brutal, for sure, almost an understatement from what it seems like. A good friend of mine is in his 4th week, he was so close to quitting just this week. Him being an ex-Marine, he says OCSD makes the Marines boot camp like its a walk in the park.

ever see 10-8 its about trainees in the LASD, do they film in dept facilities or totally studio?

I gotta admit that I watch it, just with the continued hope that it gets better...to be honest, I have no idea where they film...I do know that often they shoot near Venice beach which is LAPD's turf...also as a trainee in LASD (like yours truly) they'd first be in custody, not patrol...in my opinion that would have been kinda cool seeing the character develop from the academy to custody to patrol...but what do I know, I've only been a cop for a whole week!!!! Reno 911, now that's a show!:D

I actually like watching 10-8. I have Tivo record it everyweek. I miss that other FTO, the female one.. she was cute. Mrs. Luner isn't bad either though. One thing that I hate in every cop show is that they show the cop cars sliding around corners, fish tailing and everything. Bugs the hell out of me... I have never seen a cop actually do that, either on tv or on ride alongs. Hell we got a officer needs backup call while on a ride along, going code 3, and going so fast that I thought the car could take flight. But every corner, slowed down enough to take it with control.

I think one of the best cop shows (aside from Reno (Heeheehee))was Homicide: Life on the Streets (the first season). Again I don't know much about anything except getting yelled at at the academy, but the others seem either too jolly-go-friendly (10-8) or cops-as-bad-guys (the shield)...to add to this, NYPD Blue showed far too much of its characters' behinds for me to watch again, gag...

ya know the shield was probably based off real events right?

If it wasn't it came damn close to what happened in a dept. Not sure exactly which one, we were talking about it in class, somewhere out west.

Okay, I didn't mean it to sound like the Shield sucked or that the buttocks displayed on NYPD Blue mad it a bad show...I just wish there was a show that showed the day to day life of a member of LE...that's all...not watered down, or continually packed full of action, but realistic....moments of terror, followed by waiting around and jaw-jacking, followed by events like having to do a search on someone who has messed his pants in a big way...they don't show such things cuz people don't like to see cop shows unless it has continual drama, cute characters, etc...I'm ugly as sin, were's my representation!!!!????!!!!

oh I hear ya, just wondering if yoiu did know about the real events that may have inspired Shield.

AS we both know, its not exciting or money making to show paperwork, or boredom, it would be cool as a big documentary though
