    CHP Written Test

Hey, just got back the results of my CHP Written test that I took a couple weeks ago. They said it was a Pass/Fail test and that no score was given, so (to be frank), I just rushed through it and went on my way.

Now, I did pass but they included a score along with it... 60.8. It doesn't say that is a percentage, and would they really advance someone who scored a terrible 60% on to the next round? Are there any CHP officers out there that know if this score actually is terrible? Appreciate the help...

Not a CHP officer but i just want to know, Even though it was not supposed to be scored, Why would you rush through it anyway? Was it not that important to you?

edit: a 60.8 is just like a D in highschool or college so what do you think? ;)

Not that it's not important to me, but I felt very confident that I would pass so I didn't take the review time. If you knew you had 10 minutes to run a mile, why would you kill yourself trying to do it under 5:30 when you could easily run a 7 and get the "pass" grade? I'm annoyed it got scored at all, I was told it was pass/fail.

Yeah, that's assuming that this was a percentage... That's what I'm trying to figure out.

I heard that it isn't based off the standard scoring like they do in school. I think BART Police said the same thing when it comes to scoring. I passed my test too with a similar score, and I just had my background interview. I was so nervous.

As to your first part, It is a self challenge thing. To not settle for skimming by, But to rather try your best so that you could say to yourself that no matter what your time or "score" is, You know that you tried as hard as you could.;)

As to your second part, in your first post if i am not mistaken, You said that the letter stated that it was your percentage. So if you got a 60.8 % out of 100 %, then i would assume that it isn't good.

edit: I misread your post...they did not say it was a percentage, but it still is not a good score. That much i know.

It's a good way of finding those candidates that go that extra mile.

There are times when you can simply follow procedure and create a short-tern solution to say a family dispute, or you can put some more effort into it and help create a long-term one.

In both cases, you know all you HAVE to do, but also know that there is more you can do. I wouldn't put it past the agency to use the test as a way of gauging that.

I'm not really trying to come across as accusational, but you seem eager to put me down... That's how it comes across anyway. If it's 60.8/62, it's a freaking great score... so how do you know it's bad? You don't...

I'm fairly confident it is a pretty good score, actually, because I generally know how I do on these types of tests. I gerneally score very well on them, in the 90% range, and I can tell if I've done poorly most the time. Now I could be wrong on this one, I'm just not so quick to think it's poor as you... and I'm hoping that someone in the CHP or familiar with the CHP (or their tests) knows what this number means...

While always a possiblity, I highly doubt that is the intention of the intial test. This was a "weed out the bone-heads" test. I would venture to guess they would attempt to glean that particular characteristic from their candidates in other tests later on down the process....

Although i have never taken the CHP written test, I have however, Taken five written tests for different agencies. So to be honest, I do know that it is a bad score. I am not trying to put you down, I am mearly telling you how it is. You asked the question, recieved an answer, Don't like it, And therefore are saying that i am putting you down. To use your example of 60.8/62:

That would imply that they are scoring on a basis of the highest percentile being 62, which it is not. Any written test I have taken for any department always scored on a 100% scale. Now, if they are saying that you scored better than 60.8% of the applicants in your applicant pool, There are still almost 39% who scored better than you did. Now i am sure that a verified officer will be in sometime to either agree with me or set what exactly your score may be.

The reason I am so doubtful of your suggestion, georgia, is that you are not speaking from a position of authority. That's all... My friend got a Tscore of 58 recenty and was freaked, thinking it was 58%, until he talked to the recruiter and found it was out of 60, or maybe it was 62. Either way his score actually turned out to be phenomenal. I have no idea if my 60.8 is out of 62, I am just highly skeptical of it being out of 100% because I know how I test and I never test that poorly for ANYTHING.

It's nothing personal, georgia. If it weren't too late, I would have called the recruitment myself and found out. I will tomorrow if no one replies by then with some knowledge of this test.

That is why I said that there will probably be a verified LEO in to answer your question in a while. Like I said earlier, I am not an LEO, nor have i taken the CHP written test. I am only going on what i have already done for other agencies. I hope that it is a good score for you. Just have to wait and see.

If you took the CA POST, then it's most likely a T-score, which isn't a percent correct score.

You are correct, they are T-Scores. A 60.8 is really good, don't sweat it!

I've seen most other agencies whom accept T-scores will take from around 46to 48 and above.
"Cheshire Puss," she began, rather timidly... "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where..." said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.
