I was wondering if they will ask for refrances(SP) during the hiring process. If so would it be over dueing it to use a Federal Agent and a retired Police Lt.?

Not just references but credit rating, high school and college transcripts, every place you have ever worked, criminal/citation history, drug use, etc etc. They will know more about you then you do.
