Still Waiting....

I applied for a position at the police department several months ago. I've already gone through the initial interview, and the interview with the chief. The preceding process was the background investigation. My question is how long do B.I.'s usually take? It's been a month and I haven't gotten the thumbs up or thumbs down. I'm assuming they will write a letter if employment is declinced, since they have to all the other prospective employees. I've talked to my investigating officer maybe four times throughout this anxious month about things regarding the application. I've also tried to contact him to inquire about my employment status, but he is ALWAYS out of his office. I'm usually pretty patient about life in general and I understand that the process is lengthly, however it would be nice to know soon so I can move on to plan B and try to gain employment at other department. It could be possible that maybe he just hasn't finished the B.I. I'm sure he has a lot more things to do than fiddle with my application all day. If you were me would you keep calling, or would you just let things run its course? Thanks for the time.

When it comes to the waiting in the background process there is no such thing as patience. Your mind fills with crazy ideas like, "Well, maybe they found out I killed 30 people when I was 14...man, I really should've told them that so they wouldn't have to find out for themselves and it looks bad for me." You've obviously never killed anyone or done anything that comes into your mind its just what happens when your waiting.

There is probably several very good reasons why it is taking so long...all of them...of course...are secrets (and, for MXWelch) guarded by Chuck Norris.
