One year till entry exam

I contacted my local recruiter and they mentioned that the test is not until DEc 06. I asked if there was anything else I can do to help my chances and he mentioned the study guide and first and foremost a GOOD score - that's it.

The real question though is what would be best to better my chances. I was thinking of taking Spanish so that I can communicate with 50% of the population. I have a 4 year degree and a good amount of volunteer work. Anything else anyone might recommend while I wait?

I was thinking of going down to the local precinct to make sure my own background is up to par before I apply for the LEO exam. I know I have an unpaid parking ticket somewhere and probably something else minor that I did ten years ago and neglected to take care of. Has anyone else done this sort of proactive search for themselve as a way to make sure everything is fine and dandy there?
