    Tallahasse PD

Have my interview with Tallahassee PD this coming Tuesday. Anyone on this board ever had or know anyone who has had an interview with them? Also, I have to get a new suit for the interview. Any suggestions on cheap places for a college student....mens warehouse, dilliards, goodwill?

If your in Tallahassee I'd go to S&K, it's at the governor's Mall. I got a real nice Kilburne & Finch suit from them for $99. If you want to cheaper goodwill would work.

How was the interview? I'm waiting to hear from Applicant Services to schedule testing dates. Are you certified or not? What was your impression of TPD?

Had oral board on Tuesday and they called me later that day to say I passed on to the next step. Since our academy is on a different schedule I had to take the MMPI/CPI tests the day after, and had my polygraph and psychological interview today back to back. Finish out next week with the physical exam.

Overall I've had a great experience and everyone has been extremely friendly. Angela in recruiting really helps in getting all your dates scheduled. Personally, I don't know too many officers on the force, but from what I hear they are a respected agency where many people leave only to come back and realize how great it is.

We will see how the results go in the next week or two. Polygraph was the the only one giving me problems out of all of them this week, and I still can't figure out why some of my answers were out of whack.

I do know that everyone hired in this batch will begin in June, and they hire only twice a year in June and November. Good luck to you and your process!!

Hey can you tell me what is involved in their physical agility test?

I have been looking into moving to Florida to work with TPD after I graduate the academy here. That probably won't happen for some time since I really like it here and I also don't have the college credits yet. Also...If I went straight there from the academy, I believe I would have to do it all over again. So I would rather get some experience first lol.

I went to Raa Middle School and Lawton Chiles High before I moved up here to the St. Louis area and I still have family and tons of friends down there. So I have been thinking of going back.

There isn't any physical agility test that they have set up to test you on. You just have to pass a physical and all the necessary tests that go with that. They do have something interesting at the department where it is an incentive to stay in good shape. I believe it ranges from $30-120 extra a month incentive if you stay in your weight range or physical range or something like that. As far as I know there isn't any type of physical agility test.

I am in the academy here right now as well. Not sure how you certification would transfer to Florida, but most likely you would have to do some of the stuff over. I just finished school at FSU and loved Tallahassee so decided to apply here.

I'll have to call monday to see how it works exactly. However, a guy from my class said if we were to go there now with just our Missouri POST Certification (well, once we got that) we would have to do it all over and go through an academy there. However, I am pretty sure that once I have at least a years experience somewhere I can go right into LE there. I would just have to then retake statutory law classes as well as a few other required ours like more advanced water survival.

In fact if you want you can ask someone at your academy :D. I am recieving 945 hours of training and will be getting a Class A license to be a Peace Officer in Missouri.

Are you an agent or former agent with FDLE? Are you trying to get into law enforcement for the first time?

This link is telling me almost the exact opposite. I clicked the "Equivelancy" link on the page you posted.

Unless I am misunderstanding, I can go right into Law Enforcement in Florida if my training meets Florida's basic training requirements. Not sure if it does. Also, it says that if I am a former officer from another state I can also bypass the full academy.

Here is everything from the above link I provided.

The Equivalency of Training process is an avenue by which an officer can request an exemption from the full academy.
You may be eligible for an exemption from the full basic training requirements if you were an officer in another state or with the federal government and meet the following requirements: (1) you worked at least one year, full-time as a sworn officer in the discipline you are seeking exemption; (2) you received training in that discipline which is comparable to Florida's full basic curriculum and/or; (3) you were previously certified in Florida. There can be no more than an 8 year break in employment, which is measured from the separation date of the most recent qualifying employment to the time a complete application CJSTC-76 is submitted for exemption. In order to become a certified officer in Florida, you will need to demonstrate proficiency in the high liability areas and pass the state certification exam in the same discipline within 1 year of receipt of the approved Equivalency of Training Form (CJSTC-76 revised 7/01/02).

By law, criminal justice employing agencies or selection centers are responsible for reviewing out-of-state or federal officer's employment and training to initially determine eligibility for exemption. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement does not determine a person's eligibility. Upon collection, verification and authentication of documentation which establishes that you meet the training and experience requirements, a criminal justice employing agency or an assessment center must submit a completed Equivalency of Training Out of State/Federal Officer form CJSTC-76 (pdf) to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for approval. (The applicant does not complete the CJSTC-76 form)

Documentation of one year's experience as an out-of-state or federal officer may consist of authentic copies of one or more of the following:

    payroll records
    employment records
    verification of employment letters/affidavits

Documentation of prior training may consist of authentic copies of the following:
    training records from prior employers
    training records from academies
    transcripts
    curricula summaries
    certificates of completion
    verification of training /letters affidavits
Once the request is processed, and if approved, you should then enroll in the appropriate pre-exam training (if you choose), demonstrate proficiency in the high liability areas, and take the state certification exam.

Contact the criminal justice agency of your choice for specific information concerning job vacancies. An address list of all Florida criminal justice agencies may be obtained by accessing the FDLE web site at:

Ok, well thought you were never sworn in and just went though the academy
but, looks like its up to the department but, remember that Florida Law Enforcement is not the easiest place to get in to they like to tell you one thing a do another.

And if its tpd then they will send you to the pat thomas police academy about an hour and a half drive from tallahassee just so that you can be Certified.

I haven't been sworn in, but what I from what I read on the FDLE site it is saying that I don't necessarily need to be. Unless I misunderstood the part about having completed the equivalent to Florida's basic requirements.

that little phrase AND / OR 3 years previously certified... thats what I think your missing

    (2) you received training in that discipline which is comparable to Florida's full basic curriculum and/or; (3) you were previously certified in Florida. There can be no more than an 8 year break in employment, which is measured from the separation date of the most recent qualifying employment to the time a complete application CJSTC-76 is submitted for exemption.
