Underage drinking charge

On my 20th birthday I was charged with underage possession of alcohol. The case was differed and dissmissed. Currently, I am senior in criminal justice, 22 years old, and have my oral board review on the 21st with the Border Patrol. Will this incident greatly affect my employment options with law enforcement.

No, it won't greatly effect your employment options with law enforcement, but it may very well greatly affect them.

It certainly won't DQ you, but you also have to keep in mind that you have an arrest record. Most other applicants won't have an arrest record. Just because the charge was dismissed or deferred doesn't mean that you weren't guilty. Cops see guilty people get their cases dismissed all the time, and cops are the ones who do the background investigations.

I understand that the Border Patrol is doing a lot of hiring. That will go in your favor. As long as the rest of your background is clean (driving history, drug use, etc.) and you do well in the testing process, I wouldn't worry a whole lot about it.
