    Chicago PD ?

Is there anyone currently processing with Chicago PD or who has recently graduated from the academy that could give me a little more detail on what to expect from the exam to the academy? I was looking for a little more info. than the basics given on the website and what I was told by several recruiters, which was just about the same thing as the website... I'm just looking for some info. on how todays academy is, and not the academy that the recruiters went through 15-20 years ago...For example, I was told that Chicago PD no longer uses the Polygraph or Oral Boards with their applicants?? I'm pretty confident that this is true but I just wanna be 110% sure, because this is what I plan to do with the rest of my life and I'd like to find out every detail I can that can better prepare me for this entire process . Anyways, I do have a few other questions that I'd like to ask, but only to those who actually know what they are talking about and are familiar with Chicago PDs hiring process. I'd greatly appreciate any input, advice or info. anyone can give me....THANKS!!!!!!!

    Much love and respect

True - no poly. You give a specimen on the same day you take the psych - which is a series of booklets which ask a bunch on really important questions like "Do you like to burn things?" and "Do you like to torture kittens?". A couple months later you meet with a psych evaluator who lets you know if you were smart enough not to answer "yes" to these questions. Then you will meet with a background investigator who will "interview" you. That's it as far as an "oral".

    YOU RANG?

I am currently in the process. Keep your nose clean and after about a year and a half you could get an academy start date. Oh, and did I mention run, run, run, run, run, and then run some more.

    cpd process

    Here is my timeline:

    11/20/04: Written test
    4/3/05: POWER test
    4/17/05: Drug Test
    5/22/05: Written Psych
    8/15/05: Medical
    8/19/05: Oral Psych
2/1/06: Handed in all additional info to BI
    2/3/06: BI interview
    2/17/06: Bi called my boss
Still waiting to take the final POWER test.

I'm hoping for an April academy date, which would be the best birthday gift ever!

I agree with Morgan20... run run run. It's never too early to start again or just don't stop.

    Good luck!

im about to graduate in a few weeks. there are no polys or interviews. my psych interview lasted 7 minutes. it will be about 1.5-2.5 years from first applying till you hit the academy. i dont know how to "prepare" yourself for the hiring process except like someone said is to keep your nose clean and if you have a problem running, start running. there are a series of POWER tests that you have to take, not just 1. as for the test, get some sleep the night before, i know youve heard it before but dont take it like a cake walk. its long and does take some thinking.

as for the academy: the workouts are intense, but after a month or so youll surprise yourself at what you can do. they want to see you TRY. besides that just study for your tests and PASS them, remember SAFETY on the range, and when given instruction by an instructor LISTEN. hope this helps, if you have any other questions let me know.

Do what I do, put on Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" on your Ipod and run up and down the stairs of your local library until everyone there stares at you:eek:

For those of us that took the Feb 06 exam: the recording for the recruitment team was saying our results would be mailed out towards the end of April. Now it is saying it hasn't been mailed, but they are "hoping" to mail them within a few weeks. sigh.........

    Unhappy

According to an inside source who is high up in the brass and handles much of the hiring says that me (who took the exam in feb 06) will not get test results until july....which sucks, however this person would know if anyone would know..... he is basically the person that says yes or no whether or not to hire you
