Congrats!
Growing old is inevitable; growing up is optional :-)
CONGRATS! I am currently in the academy so fire away with any questions.
I read most of your posts, but being female what might be the biggest challenge for me? Hows the training? What did you do on the first day? Tell me about your experiences so far?Originally Posted by Mike925

Idol or anyone in the process, do you guys/gals have a college degree? i went to several colleges but did not receive a degree. will this hurt me in the LASD process? i know LAPD hammered me in regards to not finishing college and got poor grades. but i explained that i had a child and i had no chose but to work full time. they still didnt care and dq'd me.
L.A.P.D. has lost another good applicant to another agency. What a shame for their DQ's.
Other than that CONGRATS IDOL25 and good luck with your new career!!!
Let us know how your training goes.![]()
Congrats Idol and good luck!
"Cheshire Puss," she began, rather timidly... "Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where..." said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

Congrats, just by reading your post, I could tell that you are one strong female deputy! You could probably put a lot of men into shame! GOOD LUCK!
Congratulations Idol25!![]()
I have a college degree. But that did not matter to LAPD psych department. I am very upset at the way LAPD psych department handles the interview. My background was complete in about just a month with LAPD. There was nothing wrong with my BG. I am very disappointed at the way they handle things. Sometimes I think I was sized up and judged threw their eyes not by the paper work that proves that I am qualify. The psych department is separate from LAPD personnel, so they do whatever they want. Many of the LAPD trainers I know where upset that the psych department was still withholding my information. I applauded those who get in, but it's really sad for those who give an extra 100% to prove that they are qualified and I've known more applicants that have been DQ'ed than accepted. One more thing, it's sad to hear that those that get cleared and get accepted to the academy end up quitting because they can't handle the yells, the pt and the stress. I am not a perfect individual, but I gave my heart out for the last year to LAPD. I am sure many of you feel the same. But those who are in the process don't give up if there is still a chance. No matter what happens I will still have respect for LAPD officers. I made many friends at CAPS and I will miss them.Originally Posted by sir112
But the Sheriff Department does not give you the run around. If you don't pass your background you don't move on. Sheriff's department will hire you if you’re qualified. They are fast and no bull. However, I must move on.
Thank you everyone! It means a lot to me.Originally Posted by minizero

Congrats...being a female at LASD will help you get out of working the jails a lot quicker than the men. As far as being a female in the academy, be aggressive in self defense, have confidence in yourself (not too much otherwise you'll be called salty) and take everyday as it comes.
LASD needs people right now..more so than LAPD, thats why people who get dq'd at LAPD are heading to LASD and getting in.
The only negative thing I have heard talking to Deputies about LASD is you get out of the academy, then you are placed in the jails/Courts (3-8 years depending on what division you want to head out to) THEN when you get out on the streets you are a "boot". I don't know about you but if I've already been on the job 5 years, I don't want to get out on the streets, be a "boot" and re learn everything I lost while being inside. Besides that..nothing but great things about LASD.
They need the numbers to stop the race riots in the jails thats for sure.
Thanks for the advise.Originally Posted by LAPD4ME
