    Sheriff/LAPD Process

I am done with the Sheriff's process. It took me about 4 months. I completed my last appointment on 2/3/06 (Medical). Those who have been through the whole process, what is the time frame between the medical and the phone call to be hired?

I am also in the process with LAPD. I have completed everything and the psych department is still backed up since Dec.

I am also a member of the CAPS program, which I would highly recommend. Some may think it's not necessary, but this is were you will find what your physically weaknesses are truly and trust me you will be in pain for days even months. It's no joke. We run from 4 to 7 miles 3x's a week and much more.

Yes.... more people should take the CAPS program advice... I can't believe that 13 people out of 39 could not do (1) pullup during the first PFQ that the 2-06 class had...

I am not in the academy, but I've been told that the first PFQ takes place the 1st week. In the CAPS program we do PFQ once a month, which consist of at least 45 push-ups, 70 sit-ups, mile and a 1/2 run in less than 11 minutes, pull ups ( pull ups are extra points in the academy) and jumping over the wall. I am sure it's much more intense in the academy compared to CAPS.

Hi idol, can you tell me when did you take your (LASD) written, poly, interview with BI? Looks like I am about the same time frame as you, but I am still waiting for my background. My BI told me that he will call me this month for an interview, but it's the middle of the month already. Thanks in advance.

    Written 10/24
    Oral 10/28
    BG interview 11/30
    Poly 12/5
    Call from BI 1/3

Tash, Is this for LASD? If so, I went through most of the LASD process. My BI told me everything was going good as long as I passed all the exams. I took the Poly one day and was told I passed by my examiner. A week later I got a letter from the Department stating that I was DQ'ed for BS factors, Be aware. plus your BI should let you know what the discrepancies are. GOOD LUCK.

OK...first of all not many females can do a pull up, so those numbers aren't that bad.. The PFQ that you do is Weds or Thurs of week 1 at LAPD is:

As many correct pull ups you can do, no time limit.
As many sit ups you can do in 2 mins
As many correct push ups you can do, no time limit
    400yard run
    a small water/bathroom break
    1.5 mile run

    it's graded..getting an A is tough.

Do you remember on the first day you took your written test? I hope you do because if you’re going into the law enforcement field you need to have a good memory. The reason I tell you this is because you will encounter situation in which you can't say in court that you don't remember.

On my first written test the Deputy was very specific on the importance of having a good memory. Many said, “what if I don't remember what I did when I was in High School". The Deputy told us that remembering incidents that may occur in the job are very critical.

I would recommend that you write everything down to which you had written on your first day of testing. They are looking for consistency. If you change your response it will not look good on you. Every time you go into an interview you should write down exactly what you said as soon as you’re done with your interview. In the whole process they will be asking you the same questions over and over. The answers should be consistent. Don't change your mind. You must stick to whatever you admitted.

    CONSISTANCY IS THE KEY.

I hope this helps. If you can't remeber dates try to remember the year and the season in which it might of happen.

    Good Luck!!!

Stay motivated and don't give up.

too bad for court you go and pull the report and "refresh your memory", so that's not a good choice to compare it to. Remember everyone, you are taught when you get out of the academy...EVERYONE LIES.

So when someone testing tells you I can't remember, your BI is thinking..everyone lies. Burden of proof is on your *** when you are testing and going through the process.

Seen as a liar would be an issue. There are many reasons in which remembering is important. Simple as memorizing codes, license plates, discription of suspect, remember your academy tatics, being aware of your surrounding. I mean we can go on and on.
