I have a perfectly clean record, my father is retired from 27 years of law enforcement with the department to which i am applying, and I have 2 years of experience working on a 911 ambulance.
However When I was 20 years old I had sex with my girlfriend who was 17 at the time (and in college-not that it matters but stil.)....we had been dating for 3 years and are currently engaged...I was wondering if this would disqualify me from employment in law enforcment.

Ditto what creek said about your father; my father is a postal worker and I got hired. As for sex with a minor, they may take into consideration the length of the relationship...they may not. Always remember that other applicants will not have had sex with a minor, smoked dope, stolen, etc etc. I can quote my polygraph examiner when it comes to sex as a minor: "Sh**, if we only hired people that didn't we would have 4 nerds running around with badges and guns." Be honest and you should have nothing to worry about; honesty reflects integrity and that's what they are looking for. It takes guts to admit and accept responsibility for things we've done.

Unfortunately I am from CA, the department in question is LAPD. However I spoke w/ a BI the other day and he doesn't forsee problems escpecially because of the circumstances. (she was away at college w/ a signed emancipation, and we are currently engaged) so problem solved.:D
