    Secret Service

Hi guys.. I was just wondering, Whats the ideal candidate for the Secret Service? Whats a good degree to have? What branch in the military to serve? and I was thinking if smoking pot 3 times will really effect my chances of getting hired as a Special Agent in the near future.
    Thanks for the replies..

As told to me by the ASAIC at the FO where I interned, the ideal candidate is between the ages of 26-28, has relevant work experience (prior LE or military could qualify, though I've also met agents who were previously accountants, lawyers, business managers, corporate security, etc.). The applicant, if not single, should have a family who understands the needs of the agency regarding work, travel, relocation, etc. The candidate should be geographically mobile, have a clean background, and other important traits for a position in federal LE.

A degree period will help, but because the investigative mission for USSS often deals with cyber crimes or financial crimes, a degree in accounting, computer science or other related fields would be a plus. USSS also looks for those with language skills, so degree in a foreign language probably won't hurt either.

No branch would be any more helpful than another, and all five (Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard) would be acceptable.

The drug policy for USSS is not published publicly. Previous drug usage is considered on a case-by-case basis, and the only person who could answer this with any certainty would be a representative of the agenty AFTER you have applied.
