I was surfing around on MPDC's web site and came accross this in their employment section (info for lateral hire):

Who is eligible for lateral hire under the new DC law?

Nearly anyone currently serving in a law enforcement capacity as defined by the statute is eligible for lateral hire. The law specifically enumerates federal law enforcement agencies such as the US Capitol Police, US Park Police, Federal Protective Service, and the US Secret Service. To be eligible, a member of one of these agencies must have performed the duties of a law enforcement officer for the past 12 months.

Bare with me... See the part I bolded above? Does that include MPs?

I tried searching for the statute, but failed to turn up anything....

WhenI was in the academy, it did include MPs, which is extremenly rare. As far as I know, we're the only dept around that takes MPs as laterals. Be advised however: the 10 week lateral academy they advertise usually runs about six months. I'm not kidding.

Florida will waive Military Law Enforcement from the regular academy. MPs and laterals attend the same comp course to refresh on high liability areas, use of force, florida criminal and civil laws, ect...

DC isn't the only one :D

However, I wouldn't be surprised if someday that's all gone....

If I wanted to switch from MPs to Department of the Army Civilian Police, I would have to RETAKE the EXACT SAME law enforcement school offered to MPs at the same post. How dumb is that...
