How important are high school transcripts?

I graduated in 1998 with poor grades (1.27 GPA), but have 114 college credits with a 3.6 GPA since that time. My department background investigator wants a high school transcript.

I have my reasons for not excelling in high school, but will an investigator want to take those reasons into consideration, or will it be a blanket DQ factor?

    Thanks.

By the way, it's for Gwinnett County, GA.

im also going through the process with the Gwinnett County PD and the SO.
as far as the high school transcripts, they look at everything as a whole. just because you had bad grades in high school wont automatically DQ you, but they do look at them along with the rest of what they have with your BI. they will probably ask you about it but be truthful and see what happens.

    good luck

If the BI asks why you earned bad grades, just tell him/her the truth. I'm not a LEO, but I haven't heard of anyone being DQ'd for bad grades. It seems that you are doing well in college. Good luck to you.

Man, my grades were horrible in high school, I went to summer school every year except my senior year, though I was close to it. I had to go to a community college because I ranked so low. I got my act together and graduated with a much better GPA which led me to admission in America's greated Ivy League University....

I had crummy grades in high school too. I think at that age I just didn't think about grades much as long as I was passing. I think my total gps was about 2.1 or so. That was 12 years ago give or take a year. Now I'm in my final semester for an associates and my college gpa is sitting at about 3.8 or 3.9. It should end up around 3.95 after this semester is over. I think it basically just shows that you're serious about your future if you finish a college degree with excellent grades. In the job world, it seems that college basically overwrites your highschool transgressions. Assuming you do well in college that is

I wouldn't worry about the high school grades unless you have some kind of seriously deviant past.

Hmm I don't mean to hijack the thread but I have a semi related question, do they check on SAT scores during the BI? I'm assuming they don't but hoping they do

ps. I tried a search but "SAT" is too short for the search function. someone needs to change that!

I have never heard of that. I asked a couple of friends of mine who are officers and they said no.

I had lousey high school grades, but 4.0 in college. Just be honest. I hated high school and that's what I told my BI. I did get hired (non sworn), we had to go through the same BI, though. They never asked me about my SAT scores.

Amazing Redonkulous Boot-Scootin' Boogie Fact #1: Anything that a potential employer requests is of consquence in the hiring process, or they wouldn't require it.

I was just wondering how much the HS transcript factors into play on average. I assumed it would be of less importance since it was 9 years ago.

    Thanks for the help, guys.

I'm just joking around a bit. I guess it's hard to see a sense of humor just from typed wording.
