Well got my first offical "No" today. Guy said I was highly qualified but my black marks were to close and I should try again in a year.
Ok, who else is hiring like crazy?
I feel like a double jackass because I flew from Europe to test.

I flew back and forth to New Hampshire numerous times, carting my entire family several times, and was eventually rejected. One time I flew and failed the physical test and had to come back again to repeat it. That was the hardest PT test I've ever taken and even though I'd been working out I couldn't meet the benching requirement. Talk about feeling like a jack ***.
I don't know what the black marks are but if they said to wait a year it's probably good advice rather than waste more flights from Europe. Next time you come over you should test at a bunch of places and spread out the risk among multiple departments.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.
Great advice !
You should schedule as much as you can for your trip. At different departments too, some will do everything in one stop (written, physical, and psych.) for applicants that are very far away.
In any case, keep trying and good luck.

Don't get discouraged and keep applying. Continue the search and try to do other things to boost your resume. BTW, a lot of departments throughout Florida are hiring.Originally Posted by MisterK
I'll keep trying. I'm starting to think that to get into this for real I have to move back the USA and find a regular job while I apply. I'm going to have to try the buckshot method.

I'm sorry MisterK. You could always go with me (if I go). You would not only get some extra credit on your background but you could get in great shape as well, if you're not already.Originally Posted by MisterK

It sucks man, and I'm all too familiar with how it feels. I've gotten enough federal "thanks, but there's better qualified applicants" letters to wallpaper a small apartment. If I can share one thing I've learned, it's to work towards building yourself in the mean time. The department you've been processing with said to try back in a year. Do it, and work on building yourself as an applicant in the mean time (whether getting involved in community/volunteer work, letting time pass for issues that would DQ you otherwise, seeking out training/education that could better your standing, etc.). I applied to one agency shortly before I graduated from grad school and received one of the letters I mentioned above. I waited a year and applied again. This time I had more to offer as I didn't sit around and just let time pass me in the mean time.Originally Posted by MisterK
The advice you've been given about waiting to return to the States to apply elsewhere is good (if you can wait it out), as is the advice to seek out agencies that work well with applicants from long distances. At any rate, I wish you luck.

Keep thinking positive and keep moving forward. If you want it bad enough you will get it. Test with as many depts. as you can.
Good Luck!!!:D
Don't get discouraged by NO'S, I have heard a couple and still am looking for the YES.
Keep plugging along. I was rejected twice before I got hired. All total it took me 20 months from my first application till the day I finally got hired. It will be worth it--- good luck !

Yeah, I take some solace in the fact that it was a 3 step process. After the background came back clean, in that I hadn't lied and references and all that, the BI gives approval to proceed or not which he did, then that guys boss gave me a pass as well but the head boss said no.
Right now I may move back to where my family is and try out with Las Vegas, Henderson and whatever else I can find out there.

Vegas is good place to live and work plus you could easily apply to many CA agencies since it is so close. What were the "black marks" you talked about?
St Louis Metropolitan Police department. They even have commercials on TV.
NYPD baby!!!!! were always hiring

:( Sorry to hear that dude. Hey if you ever wanted to make your way back to Northern Nevada, I do know the Walker River Police Department (I think its about 50 miles SW of Fallon) is in dire need of 3 police officers ASAP (they hire w/out P.O.S.T. Certification) but you have to live on the reservation (for free though ;) )

Seattle PD hiring very agressively. There is a lot of competition but also a lot of positions. I heard they are looking for at least 100 new officers. If you don't mind grey skies and a football team that only scored 10 points in the superbowl this year you might want to check them out.
