    Question Question about being hired

Well, I have a few questions and I hope one of you can answer me. I was born in Germany due to my father being in the military. I have a German birth certificate and my grandma is mailing me a legal copy as we speak. Will that be good enough to submit my application or do I need anything else done with my birth certificate. As for the next questions, I know it has vaguely been answered but I want a more defined answer. Between 2002 and 2003 I have smoked marijuana. I have indicated on my application that I only smoked four times which really is the exact amount of times i've smoked. Since then, I have gotten my associates and bachelors degree. I don't even smoke cigarettes or drink more than five times a year. Does that fact have any negative effects on me being hired.

I'm sure someone will answer soon and I just want you guys to know that it's great that you are so helpful for people like me wanting to be a Police Officer.

Ok let me see if I can help some.

Birth Certificate- I am not sure. Contact the depts you are interested in and they can tell you more. I would think it would be enough.

Mary J smokin- Now again dept will vary. Do I think you need more time between the usage and applying? Yes but I am not the recruiter of a department. I know the standard is four to five years or longer. The longer the better. Just walk the right line from now on. One thing is that you will have plenty of candidates who have never touched it. Good luck and I hope this helps!!

My agency would DQ you for this until it's been 5-7 years since the last time you smoked.

Ditto TPD. You will need a minimum of several more years before applying.

Also in the mean time get your citizenship here in the States. You may already have it, but I'm not sure you just mentioned military father and German birth certificate. If your father is US military and you were just born in Germany, then no sweat many military brats are in the same boat you are. If you are not a US citizen yet, once you become one you'll find it opens up many more places that you can apply to.

I had to submit a birth certificate/state id/Social security card and some other things.

No no no, I'm a US Citizen, I have a passport, and Social Security Number. Like you said, I'm just an Army brat. The only thing is that I was born there, I speak German and English, and my mom is German. I was just kind of worried b/c my birth certificate is stamped in Germany.

Don't put your real name and address on the internet, either! That makes me wonder about your common sense.

Between 2002 and 2003 I have smoked marijuana ??? Thats a pretty big "between" area. Just a heads up that you will likely be asked when exactly you last used marijuana on your application/polygraph/everything else.

Most departments here in Florida will not let you apply if you have used marijuana at all in the past 60 months OR more than 10 times in your entire life. Best of luck to you and keep us posted.

The last time I smoked was in January of 2003. I had just moved into a new town and I smoked it once. Over my lifetime, like I said, I smoked four times. That is the exact number. I don't remember the dates but they were in that year.

Thanks for the advice KittyMom, I took it off.

Don't plan on applying until at least 5 years after 2003.

    Mudbath,
For future reference, it would be wise to post in the Ask-A-Cop section of this forum IF you ONLY want to be answered by actual, confirmed Police Officers. People who are not LEOs are restricted from posting in these areas, and as a result, you will recieve more accurate, informative information, with less "what ifs." I'm not saying that the non-LEOs are any less informative, but to evaluate a reply you need to take into credit the non-LEOs join date, and reputation when making an informed decision as to what advice to take.

See, I'm not a Verified LEO and I am able to reply to your question and perhaps if I were up to it, give you mis-informative or even bad advice.
