What is a review panel for?????? Why do files go to review panels, dont people usually just get hired after they finish backgrounds? Or is it because there are issues and it just needs to get OK'd for a DQ to happen???

I think they review your background before they determine to give you the oral psych, im not to sure. But if you dont have anything bad on your background or your BI didnt find anything while doing the investigation, especially something you didnt tell them about, then you dont have anything to worry about.
The psych and the medical are usually the last steps. Be patient. It normally takes what seems to be FOREVER, but that's probably just because you seem to be so anxious about it. Try not to think about it, you'll hear back from them soon enough. I went through a six month period before I finally got through with everything and I was non-sworn! Patience, my friend, you will need to learn that if you get the job!![]()

Has anyone gone through this or is going through it now?
im going through it right now.
I just got a call yesterday from my BI, he told me that he finished up my background and he was turning it over to the panel to be certified. He said it could be as soon as 2 weeks or 2 months, depending on what he found on me. He told me good luck and gave me my case manager's info if i wanted to check my status. I asked him if it was possible to get into the March academy and he said it very well could happen if all went well. So its just the second to last step before they decide you are one of the ones they want. Good luck!
Did they let you take the oral psych yet? Or will they schedule you once they know they are going to do a hire???Originally Posted by R.Cefola
No, the oral pysch is the very last step you do. First you have to be certified by the panel. Once that happens they schedule you for your oral pysch. As long as you past that last step your in.
Safety, are you concerned about the psych? The BI is harder getting through than the psych. Hey, I passed the psych...and I'm 5149 1/2... Not really. But the psych was no big deal to me. You take a LONG written test (in my case) and then chat with the designated shrink for a while....Reeeeelaaaax...

Thanks guys, I am just trying to figure out what the steps in the process are now. I know that LAPD changed the steps around a few months ago. I already took the psych (oral and written) before and passed, I was told since my process took so long I would have to take it again as an update.Originally Posted by Mz Cheyenne
Well, you should be just fine then. You gotta be patient, they always take FOREVER. Since you've taken the psych before, you'll probably sail right through...once they get your paperwork through paperwork hell. Hang in there!

Patience, grasshopper.Bureaucracies move slowly. The process took 3-4 months for me just as a volunteer, they are going to take even longer before they entrust you with guns and the power of arrest. Think about how big LAPD is and how much paperwork they have to shovel through. You're probably okay as long as you haven't gone crazy since your last psych. Think of the waiting as a further psych test! :D
