    My History

I have always wanted to be a police officer. I have absolutely nothing on my criminal record, the only dealings I have had with the police were in positive manners (Police Explorers). I'm currently in High School and am not taking any Criminal Justice classes. I am very strong with computers and in college I am most likely going for a degree in computers. Will this be alright for becoming a police officer or do i need to so a lot in criminal justice? Im curious because I want to go into the FBI in computer crime division after my Police carrer.

I read the sticky in the ask a cop section but I didnt just want to do Police Work and that is where I got confused

    -Thanks

If your goal is the FBI, then yes computers would be a great major, minor in criminal justice wouldn't hurt. If you plan on getting your masters then look for a CJ degree with concentration into computers. Be smart thoughout college you will have a lot incounters with drugs or alchohol. use your head it is not hard to slip off the deep end when you are away from your parents and rules seen unimportant.

If you want to work for the FBI, stay far away from a degree in CJ. They could care less about them. Major in computer science, accounting/finance, or a foreign language (or a mix of those). Read the FBI's website to see what the entry paths for special agents are, and plan your college major accordingly.

Bow, I went directly into college after High School. I went to ITT Technical Institute in Fort Wayne, IN. Great School, If you can afford it.

I received my Associates Degree of applied science in computer network systems on September 10th, 2005. I dont think I could of picked a better profession if i'm wanting to go into the FBI. I'm currently 20, will be 21 in March and going to put my applications in like crazy!

Good for you! Watch the peer pressure, it's one of the toughest thing you'll face at that age.

This is critical if you plan on getting anywheres in life. I had friends who wished to go this route in high school, I was a straightedge then and I still am now, they accepted the fact that this is who I am. They still remained friends and respected me. Somewhere in teen-hood kids get so amped on being part of the COOL and popular crowd that they forget reality. Popularity isn't what it used to be, these kids today are usually the people you will see later on in life being cuffed and stuffed in the back of a patrol car.

You're a smart kid. Just remember, your teenager life only lasts a few years... your adult life lasts forever. ;)
