Illinois Police Departments & California Training

I know that some states allow their police agencies to use other states training, such as AK will allow CA training/experience, provided you do a "re-cert" course (2 weeks) sometime in your first 12 months of the job.

I have a friend in IL, and he would always say "You should come work out here..."

I don't really want to leave my lovely state (CA) for IL (and I dont intend to), but even if I did, I don't know if IL will accept the CA POST. Do they? How can you check on things like this?

    Thanks

I guess it depends on what department you go to. I know with my PD they will send ya back through the academy.

You can start by either calling the department you are interested in or contacting the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

    Oh, thank you/

... yes - that helps a lot. Apparently I can use meh training, but I wonder if agencies would care enough to do the footwork in getting me checked off by the IL law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

If you were to get hired by my department, your resume would speak volumes with the Training and Standards Board. We have had 4 out of state transfers in the last 7 years, 2 have had to rego the academy and 2 did not. 3 from MO and one from NC. One the other hand, you still have to take an IL Law week course, and then our dept, sends you off for a week long firearms training course.

    Good LUCK!

I think a lot of departments around here would take you, and file for the training waiver. I know my department has guys from Indiana and Tennessee that did not have to attended the full academy. We also have a guy from LA County Sheriff's Dept., he had to take the academy again though since he had only worked in the jail.
