Independent Psych Evaluation

I got my results from the independent psych. He said that my evaluation went well and he feels that I do fit the characteristics of a Police Officer. I was DQ'd from my psych and I appealed it. The response from the independent psych was good news for me. He will write out a report and then sumitted to the psych department or to the LAPD personnel. If personnel agrees with the independent psych then I will be good to go. The total cost was 1,000. Its a 50/50 chance, but worth it. I'v put so much effort into this and it's all about dedication no matter what or until the end. Hoorah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is an extemely naive opinion.

I would also disagree that the chances that you would get hired over an indpendent test much less than 50%.

If the dept were to ignore the fact that you were rejected once, then take your new test at 100% face value then you would have a 50/50 chance. However, the prior test will weigh strongly.

As I have written here MANY times, Just because your pysch test shows you are not suited for LE does not mean you are a bad person, unintelligent or otherwise deficient. It simply means you are not particularly suited for LE. Just like everyone is not suited to be a heart surgeon.

Personally, I would have saved the $1000 and applied to other departments. We have people who fail our psych exam appeal it all the time by getting their own psychologist. I'm not aware of any of these people ever getting hired. Even with an appeal, the departmental psychologist is still going to have the final say. It's doubtful that he's going to admit being wrong the first time.

Keep in mind that a particular department looks for a certain psychological profile. An applicant who fails with one department may very well pass at another. That happens frequently around here, even when the same psychologist is used! We've had applicants fail our psych and then pass at the sheriff's office. We both use the same psychologist.

Because of that, the opinions of some independent psychologist aren't really looked upon favorably. For one, the independent psychologist probably doesn't have the same experience in testing law enforcement applicants as the departmental psychologist does. Second, the independent psychologist does not know the particular profile that the department is looking for. Third, when you pay $1000, it's easy for a department to think you just bought yourself a favorable evaluation.

Just because I got DQ'd on my psych does not mean I will go on a killing rampage. By the way, you want to elaborate on what "something" is?

I am proud to get this far. I have been honest and straight foward and you can't judge someone for other peoples mistakes.

Naive is only those who are close minded. Therefore, you only see the negetive side of life instead of looking at it as a whole. I hope you don't judge everyone the same. No one said the process would be a piece of cake.

Who are you talking to and what are you trying to say? Just in case it was directed at me here goes: I asked a simple question about your evaluation and how you could make the statement that the dept. made the mistake and not someone you paid a grand too. Do you have a PhD.? If not I'd like to know what makes you so sure.

Secondly, To be able to tell someone just how talented or stable or suited for a certain career based on 11 posts on a message board is laughable.
