I put in an application for a local department recently (also my #2 choice for places to work) and today I got back my thanks, but no thanks letter.
I read it and was like..."well hell...that was fast".
Racked my brain for about 15 minutes to figure out if I could remember anything I did wrong on the application. I then called up a friend from my academy class who applied at the same place. He got the same letter. However, he pretty much knew ahead of time we would but didn't tell me (dipwad!). Seems they are currently only looking for certified officers to get on the street before the first of the year. I won't even be graduating until around late march or early april.
I also talked with my old HS SRO who is also the BI for my #1 choice department and they just hired 3 new guys and won't be able to hire anymore budget wise, even though they are down 4-5 who are out on sick leave. So...just like that #1 and #2 departments are out of the picture for me :(....for now anyways. Guess its time to start looking at the other places in the area to apply.
Least I know so far it isn't something wrong with me as a person...I'm sure the psyche tests will show me differently later though :D.

On the site, it says "Candidates are challenged- mentally and physically - in an environment which instills a commitment to the highest moral-ethical standards."
I guess this answers it - we always knew you were mentally challenged, but could never prove it! :D

Keep on looking. One denial isn't a bad thing. I'm sure other agencies/departments are looking for people who necessarily don't have experience.
