General Question about Background Checks

Do police departments really check you from a**hole to appetite? Or do they mostly try to scare you into thinking they check every possible thing you've ever done in the last 20 years?

Not only do we carry guns , we have the authority to use ALL levels of force including deadly, we can detain , arrest and "deprive the liberty" of people , take custody of children immediately if we perceive they are endangered, involuntarily commit someone on a mental health warrant ( I don't need a doctor, I can do it myself) , and make various and sundry decisions that can have a minor to a MAJOR impact on the lives of everyday citizens.

Of COURSE they want to know everything they can before giving out such authority.

Yes, they will look up your a$$ with a microscope and then verify anything they find on a polygraph.
You don't have to be perfect, but don't be stupid and try to cover things up.
