Does anyone know when applicants from exam 4022 will being processing? How many days do we need to take off to complete all the steps in the application process? I have a week vacation remaining from now until the end of the year, and I just want to get an idea of how many days I need to reserve.
It's a color blindness and distance test. Kind of hard to describe, I remember you had to look at some circles and tell the guy what the number inside of the circle was. If you wear contacts, make sure you bring your case and solution because you will have to take them out.Originally Posted by Newyork77
Does anyone think you will get overtime coming right out of the NYPD academy considering you make 25K come January?
If you do a search....that's already been answered........Originally Posted by 1DayK9
Nope....ain't going to happen according to the NYPD guys. You would be at the very bottom of the food chain.
Once you graduate you'll make $32k, some of the recruits out of the class that just graduated say that they get more forced overtime than they really want.Originally Posted by 1DayK9
I would take off a full day for:Originally Posted by BklynAzn

Oral psych
BI meeting

Toast, I was going off of what Joe was saying a while back. Perhaps it depends on what Precinct you are in....Originally Posted by toastmaster

There's two kinds of overtime.. the type you want and the type you don't want :D Rookies especially are getting part of their days off cancelled due to manpower shortages.Originally Posted by Bearcat06
He must have been talking about the type you want....the kind of OT that doesn't tap you out into 14 hour or longer shifts....Originally Posted by toastmaster
OT is a HUGE issue with the job right now. They are trying to eliminate it completely! Remember a few things:
1) As a rookie....you are last in line for the overtime sign-up! That measn when that detail comes along...every person with more seniority will have a chance at it first. So expect very little OT!!! And when you do get it...it will be the crap detail nobody wants!
2) There is a OT cap (limit)!!! Yes...35 hours is the cap citywide right now! Just go ahead and try to even get that as a rookie! We have guys getting ready to retire and they are averaging 30 hours and they get to pick what they want. They can't even get close to the full 35!
3) Yes, you can collar and make OT. But be careful. They see you doing it and reaching the OT limit, and you will be placed on T/S (desk duties). I know! I was always collaring! Then...be on the phones for weeks. Why?? They didn't want me going over the cap!
4) There is forced OT!. But again...it is limited and they look how close you are to the cap! That OT is again are details nobody else wants!
So be VERY careful when you think about OT. There is no OT in the academy. When you get out...you will probably average no more than 20 hours a month unless teh feds give us some money or an incident occurs. Our last class averages 4 hours every week now due to details or arrests.
-In God we trust. All others, put your hands on the car and don't move.
I heard rumors of cops who got put on the T/S because of too much overtime walking outside of the precinct, doing car stops on foot and looking for 511's (suspended operators) to collar.. I wonder if that ever happened, it would be funny.Originally Posted by Joeyd6
1) We don't do car stops on foot. Safety issues. (One exception: Rookies until they are schooled by veterans.)Originally Posted by toastmaster
2) What has been tried is when stuck on T/S, they get ID from everyone who comes insides the station and run them for warrants. When a collar arises though....the arrest is usually assigned to another officer by teh supervisor to prevent OT.
