    "lapd Dq"

well i got the bad news last saturday in the mail from LAPD. It was a Letter of Concern from Personnel Department. They stated that i should just volunteer to withdraw from the process or appeal. of course i appealed and turned in my appeal letter just this morning. it was for a achievement goal issue that was one of the 6 background standards you need to pass due to not finishing my volunteering w/ the Northeast Division (LAPD)? well i had a reason for that because of my work schedule changing. also another issue was that i got poor grades in college. i had a newborn son, i had to work, and take care of my family, which was taking a toll on me. so i had to work full time. i was the only parent working at that time also. i really dont see why this would be a concern? BI's should know this and look into the situation. not jumping into conclusions. anyways whats done is done any advice? thanks guys.

Hey, sorry about the bad news! No one likes bad new irreguardless of the reason. I suggest appealing it if your heart is set on the LAPD, apply elsewhere and try not to beat yourself up over the LAPD.

    Good luck

thanks alot, im just upset at lapd dq me for something not that bad? i understand if your hiding a honesty issue, or you have a felony, or had a bad employment history? thats a differnent situation. but to have poor grades in college, or volunteer. i had several friends in the department now who had more worse issues than me but they got in? this was 4 years ago though. anyways just sit and wait.

Are you serious? They DQ'd you for not volunteering and poor grades in college? Are you sure it wasn't for the collections you talked about earlier? That would make more sense. Especially if you say friends got on with worse grades. I never heard that people had to volunteer to be hired by a major dept. But as I told you in previous posts, going into collection would DQ you from mine.
Apparently, I'm supposed to be more angry about what Mitt Romney does with his money than what Barack & Michelle Obama do with mine

I think he's asking questions of things that could DQ him or did they actually say those are the reason? Your posts are very confusing, sorry :-P

dan i did get dq'd for those. my BI went to the LAPD division were i volunteered at. they stated that i volunteered some time then after i stopped coming for about 2 years. however, i adviced they officer that my work was conflicting with my volunteer service. pretty st@**id. but i appealed already and i really dont care anymore... if i get on or not. it shows ya that LAPD dq's candidates for st@**id reasons. i lost the drive with LAPD. and they lost a good candidate. i understand if their was a felony involved, or something serious? good luck to everyone.

Wow your response shows great maturity. LAPD does this to a lot of people. Some people say the do it on purpose to see if you really want it bad enough. Don't bad mouth them because 1 BI made a decision on you that was also comfirmed by a case manager. You said you wrote your appeal letter, you'll hear from them in a few weeks. Hang in there and keep your head up, because once you get in your realize it was worth it!

Wow, that really sucks. They make it seem like you're obligated for life if you volunteer for LAPD. I did about a month and a half of volunteer work for LAPD back in 1999 before I joined the military. If they use that as an excuse to DQ me I'm going to laugh until I cry.

Using these piss poor reasons to DQ just to see if you really want to be there is very unprofession if you ask me. Sure, I can see these tactics being used in the police academy, but in the hiring process? Seems a little extreme to me.

Lastly, did you notify the person in charge at your volunteer position that you were leaving? If you just said your work was conflicting with this volunteer work and then you just didnt' show up with any warning, I can see why then.

Didn't you say in a prior post that the BI said that you might be DQ'd because of your past financial history? I'm sure that had to factor in there somewhere since I know that one's financial history plays a big part in the consideration for hire. I have a hard time believing that they DQ'd you because you couldn't continue volunteering for them unless there's something you aren't disclosing.

I'm in the same situation. Sent a letter of appeal and waiting for an answer. Sometimes I don't understand how they work, but it's been more than a month since they received my letter and I can't believe that they take that long to tell you "yes, you are still in process" or " no, we've decided to kick you out". How many BI's , case manager and analysts have to review that letter to determine what to do? I know that for Personnel I'm not priority right now, but I just want an answer. Does anybody know how long an appeal takes to get back to you?

The LEO's here have a lot of experience and I think that there is MORE to this issue than a lack of volunteerism.

I agree with LAPD4ME. Keep at it. There might be more than meets the eye (in a positive sense).
