I just dropped off my application at Cranford PD in Union County NJ a few minutes ago. My question is, is it typical for a PD to call your reference before they even recieved my application? What happened is - this one funeral home in my area that I help out at when they need it, the funeral director wrote a reference for me. My mother also plays funerals for this director and he told her today that he recieved a phone call from the PD saying that he wrote a good letter of reference and so on. I thought they don't start checking references until the BI after the exam? It just seems to me why check someone's references if you don't even know if they'll pass the department's test?
